Nicholas Galitzine is no stranger to playing heartthrob. From 2021 Cinderella to his breakthrough role in 2023 Red, white and royal blueThe English actor has made audiences swoon over the last few years.
But for his new film Your ideaGalitzine, 29, took on a new challenge in his role as Hayes Campbell, the 24-year-old lead singer of the world’s most popular boy band.
In the film – based on Robinne Lee’s popular novel of the same name – Galitzine finds herself in a May-December romance Anne Hathaways Solène, a 40-year-old divorced mother who is forced to accompany her teenage daughter’s trip to the Coachella Music Festival.
When the two have an unexpected meeting backstage, an even more unexpected relationship begins to blossom. The real challenge for the actor, however, was his scenes on stage.
“I’m not a dancer,” Galitzine admitted with a laugh while speaking to ET’s Rachel Smith about preparing for the romantic comedy. He added that it was challenging “to learn this and be with four professional dancers at the same time.”
Hayes’ band in the film, August Moon, is completed by Jordan Aaron Hall, Jaiden Anthony, Raymond Cham Jr. and Viktor White, and the actor recalled joking with his on-screen bandmates that they “better not do that.” screw up for me. Make me look good!”
Galitzine shared that he was inspired by groups like K-pop megastars BTS — “they have this amazing choreography, but a kind of nonchalance in the way they perform” — but emphasized that August Moon really came together, ” establishing chemistry with the other guys.
“We were all in the same hotel. We had a lot of game nights with Mario Kart,” he recalled of the filming experience. “It’s just about spending time together and building such a tangible friendship with each other. It’s all those little moments on stage that you see between them that I think are really compelling.”
His chemistry with Hathaway was also crucial to the romantic comedy said the Oscar-winning actress that it came naturally to both of them.
“I just think that Nick and I definitely would have stayed friends,” she shared. “Sometimes in this life you meet people for like five minutes and you think, ‘Oh, I think I’d be friends with that person.’ But you don’t really have the time.
“Nick and I hit it off right away,” Hathaway continued. “We just started texting, and then we started talking, and then we played together, and then we talked in between… We just developed a real friendship, and that’s really, I don’t know, special .”
Galitzine actually continues singing Your idea soundtrack, having already released two of the group’s singles, “Dance Before We Walk” and “Closer.”
So would the actor ever have a real chance at a music career?
“I’m just really passionate about music, and I always have been,” he noted. “I think, you know, acting has been very nurturing for me in many ways, but the extremely talented people that I’ve been able to meet and work with… have opened so many doors for me. So we’ll see what happens.”
