Both teams played once in the previous season, with New York winning the competition by 8 wickets. Deccan Gladiators are the defending champions of the league and have made it to the finals again.
Deccan is led by Nicholas Pooran while Kieron Pollard leads the New York Strikers. Notably, Pooran resigned from the West Indies white-ball captaincy following West Indies’ early fall T20 World Cup. They failed to make it into the tournament’s Super 12, losing two of their three qualifying games. They lost to Scotland and Ireland. Incidentally, Pooran took over the captaincy from Pollard after the latter announced his retirement from the national team earlier this year.

Aided by Andre Russell’s unbeaten 90 off 32 balls, Deccan scored 159 for no loss in 10 overs. Kohler-Cadmore scored 59 off 28 balls. Russell hit nine fours and seven sixes in his innings. The Bulls then scored just 103/7 in 10 overs and lost the game by 56 runs. They won both knockout games this season and reached the final.

Andre Russell played four matches in this year’s T10 League, scoring 115 runs at an average of 57.50 and a strike rate of 190. In the previous season he scored 249 runs in 12 games at an average of 41.50 and a strike rate of 212. He could be the difference between the two sides.
The Kieron Pollard-led New York Strikers had a brilliant tournament, winning six games and losing just one. They won the first qualifying match against the Morrisville team by four wickets. Morrisville scored just 81 runs and New York managed it in less than nine overs thanks to UAE opener Muhammad Wasim’s unbeaten 36 off 16 balls.
