• The new mid-engined supercar will feature a bespoke 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8.
  • Lamborghini designers were inspired by the flagship Revuelto when designing the new car.
  • It remains unclear how many electric motors the supercar will have.

The plug-in hybrid successor to the Lamborghini Huracan will be unveiled in August and is the company’s long-awaited rival to the Ferrari 296 GTB.

Lamborghini has been photographed testing its new mid-engine supercar several times in recent months, and according to a recently filed trademark application, the car could be called Temerario. While that name is still unconfirmed, Lamborghini sales and marketing boss Federico Foschini has revealed that the car will premiere in August.

Prototypes show that the car will be significantly different from the Huracan. The front apron is characterized by slim, angular headlights and hexagonal LED daytime running lights. Many design inspirations are also taken from the Revuelto.

For example, the Temerario will have an open engine bay, similar to its V12-powered sibling, with angular buttresses. It also features a large central exhaust mounted high on the rear fascia and will feature two small LED taillights. Lamborghini’s design department also created an eye-catching diffuser and exposed much of the rear tires, at least on the prototypes we’ve seen so far.

Lamborghini has ditched the Huracan’s 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine in favor of a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8. While the Urus features a similar engine, the Temerario’s V8 is expected to feature several bespoke components to make it a little more special. Autocar describes the engine as a “highly tailored offering”.

The V8 is complemented by a type of plug-in hybrid powertrain. The Revuelto uses three electric motors, but it’s unclear how many the Huracan’s successor will have. Whatever the case, it will offer significantly more power than the car it replaces and should have over 800 horsepower. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is also expected, but it is unknown whether Lamborghini intends to offer both rear- and all-wheel-drive versions.
