Indian SUV lovers are excited by the news of Ford’s return to India. For this re-entry into the Indian automobile market, the company has planned to launch its full-size SUV Endeavor. However, it has now been reported that it could be renamed Everest. Internationally, Ford sells the Endeavor as the Everest, and now India too could get the same badge.
For those who may not know, Ford sells the Everest in numerous international markets. However, since the Everest name was trademarked by another company, an agreement had to be reached with Endeavor.
Now, reports suggest that Ford has managed to trademark the Everest name in India and will now launch it with the same name. This move could help the brand strengthen the Everest name.
However, it might cause confusion among Indian car buyers. This is because it has been called “Endeavour” for a long time. The first generation of this SUV came onto the market in 2003. It was based on the Ford Ranger pickup.
Ford Everest spotted in India
Just a few weeks ago, a completely uncovered Ford Everest was spotted on a flatbed in Chennai. The exact location of this particular car has not been revealed.
However, it was found to be in a silver color and bore an Everest emblem. In addition, this model was equipped with the Trend emblem in the lower left part of the trunk lid.
The model was most likely the two-wheel drive variant as there was no 4X4 badge on the rear. It is believed that this car was brought here for testing purposes.
Ford Everest: details
India may not have received the latest generation of Ford Everest yet. However, our neighbors in Nepal have been enjoying this SUV for some time now. Some time ago, a video of this SUV being driven in Nepal was shared online.
The tested model featured beautiful C-shaped LED headlights and a huge grille with lots of chrome. It also featured new LED fog lights and an all-new front bumper as well as a massive new hood.
In side profile, the Nepalese model was equipped with a set of massive 20-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. It also featured large mirrors with 360-degree cameras, a new Bi-Turbo logo on the fenders, new running boards and lots of chrome.
At the rear there were brand new LED taillights with the Everest logo in a glass section in the middle. This particular model was the highest specification model and therefore also carried the 4X4 badge. This model also had four parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Interior and powertrain
Inside, this model featured a huge, vertically mounted 12-inch touchscreen infotainment screen. It was also equipped with automatic climate control with rotary controls. The entire cabin of the upcoming Everest will be very high quality and modern.
As for the powertrain, the Nepalese model was equipped with a bi-turbo engine that produces 200 hp and 500 Nm of torque. However, it may not be offered in India.
According to reports, the India model will come with the same old single-turbo engine. This engine produces around 170 hp and 420 Nm of torque. This engine will make the 2024 Everest less powerful than the current market leader – Toyota Fortuner.
