Nelly Korda Downplays Hopes of LPGA Tour History After Her “dream” Performance at the Met Gala

Nelly Korda insists she gave little thought to the chance to make history by winning an unprecedented sixth consecutive event on the LPGA Tour.

The 25-year-old returns to the Cognizant Founders Cup in New Jersey this week after attending the Met Gala in New York on Monday, where she became the first female golfer to attend the star-studded event since Tiger Woods.

Korda described attending the Met Gala, which features celebrities from sports, showbiz and fashion, as a “dream come true” but still seems somewhat reluctant to be thrust into the spotlight as the face of women’s golf.

After winning in four of his last five starts, Scottie Scheffler was asked about Nelly Korda’s five straight victories on the LPGA Tour and said her accomplishments are currently more impressive than his own.

“I’m just out here doing what I love, and hopefully that’s what makes the game grow naturally,” Korda told reporters Wednesday. “I’m not trying to push anything. I hope people see me for who I am and that I love this game and do it naturally.”

“At the end of the day, I think doing well in your sport is what gets people’s attention. I’m not the type of person to try to push anything or do something that I’m not really comfortable with. I hope so. “I just do it naturally and that gets people’s attention.”

Just days after the Miami Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton walked the Met Gala red carpet alongside other sports superstars.

Of the experience, Korda added: “It was so, so crazy. You’re standing in line and you’re ready to go on the carpet and it’s like you see all these people that you normally see on TV shows or movies and they’re like famous singers and they are all the time over fascinated by the stars.

“For me, the best people are watching. I just stayed silent and looked at everyone’s clothes. I would say like I saw Shakira and I just love Shakira. She is so beautiful. Then Jaden Smith was really, really nice. He was the first to do that.” Say hello to me and introduce yourself. Everyone was really great.

Can Korda make LPGA Tour history?

Korda captured her second major title and fifth straight victory in the Chevron Championship last month, tying the record set by Nancy Lopez in 1978 and also surpassing Annika Sorenstam (2004-2005).

Asked if she was confident about continuing the winning streak this week, Korda said: “If I’m honest, I didn’t think about it at all because there was so much going on in these two weeks. I had it on Monday.” So the Met didn’t have much time to think about it.

Highlights from day four of the Chevron Championship in Texas.

“My track record wasn’t the best in New Jersey. I missed the cut last year and we played KPMG here last year too and that was a nice missed cut too. I’m really just trying to take it one step at a time.” , See how it goes.

“This golf course is tough. It’s very, very tight off the tee. The rough is very stressful. And since it’s wet this year, it’s even worse. So I just don’t go too far beyond myself and try to take it one shot at a time.” No matter how boring it may sound or no matter how many times you’ll hear it from me, that’s the motto and I’ll stick to it.
