MI vs SRH: Toss Fixing in Mumbai Indians Games? Match Referee Blatantly Blocks the Camera (watch Video)

The coin toss incident during the match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 attracted attention on social media. The referee picked up the coin before the cameraman could focus, making it difficult for viewers to see.

Mumbai Indians suffered their eighth defeat of the current season on Friday, May 3, at the Wankhede Stadium. Kolkata Knight Riders secured a 24-run win in the 51st match of IPL 2024. The Mumbai team is almost out of the playoff race after their disappointing performances.

Hardik Pandya flipped the coin as home captain and Shreyas Iyer called. The match’s referee, Pankaj Dharmani, picked up the coin before it was seen on camera. The referee declared MI the winner of the toss. Pankaj prevented viewers from witnessing the result, sparking a debate on social media.

“The WTH referee picked up the coin before the cameraman could show it. Why does this only happen during Mumbai Indians matches?” a user posted on X.

“I’m not talking about anything here. I’m just talking about the thing that I observed today that the cameraman couldn’t show the coin like he shows in every game.” the same user continued writing.

“Whenever there is a toss with Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, we never see a clear toss in the @IPL @BCCI, that’s a real shame.” another user wrote.

A few weeks ago, Faf du Plessis claimed that there was a controversial coin toss during an IPL 2024 match against Mumbai Indians. There was a wave of allegations on social media that referee Javagal Srinath had switched sides in favor of Mumbai. Du Plessis reported the incident to Pat Cummins a few days later.

Jasprit Bumrah takes three wickets for 18 runs

The Shreyas Iyer-led side scored a total of 169 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Middle-order batsman Venkatesh Iyer scored a game-saving half-century and scored 70 runs in 52 balls with six fours and three sixes. Pacers Nuwan Thosehara and Jasprit Bumrah took three wickets each.

The visiting team endured a disastrous start as they lost their wickets for 57 runs in 6.1 overs. Phil Salt (5) went first, followed by Angkrish Raghuvanshi (13), Shreyas Iyer (6) and Sunil Narine (8). Piyush Chawla outwitted Rinku Singh, who scored nine runs off eight balls and two boundaries.

Venkatesh Iyer showed resilience and anchored the Knight Riders innings. He formed a crucial 83-run partnership with ‘Impact Player’ Manish Pandey, who scored 42 runs off 31 balls. After Pandey’s dismissal, the team lost quick wickets. Andre Russell was dismissed after scoring seven runs off two balls.

Mumbai Indians’ fightback faltered as they fell to 71-6 within 12 overs. Suryakumar Yadav scored 56 runs off 35 balls with six fours and two sixes. However, his dismissal ended Mumbai’s chances. Mitchell Starc (4-33), Sunil Narine (2-22) and Varun Chakravarthy (2-22) delivered dominant bowling performances.
