Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians hosted Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, May 6.
The all-round Mumbai Indians beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets to register their fourth win in IPL 2024 and move to the 9th spot in the IPL 2024 points table.
First bowled, they restricted SRH to 173/8 with Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla shining with 3 wickets each. During the run chase, MI lost three quick wickets but a batting masterclass from Suryakumar Yadav ensured MI successfully chased down the target. The batsman hit 102 runs off 51 balls and finished the game in 17.2 overs.
At the post-match award ceremony, Hardik Pandya praised his batters but was not happy with the performance of his bowling unit. Hardik Pandya explained:
“We want to focus on playing good cricket but we still think we gave 10-15 runs more. The way our batters batted was excellent.”
Hardik Pandya further talked about his bowling and said that he likes to bowl in the right areas and it worked for him against SRH. Hardik Pandya also praised veteran leg-spinner Piyush Chawla for his heroics. Hardik Pandya said:
“My bowling: I like to bowl in the right areas, I bowl depending on the situation. Today I threw in the right areas and it worked. I felt Chawla had to bowl from the shorter side. He (Chawla) had to be precise.” “The margin of error has become smaller for bowlers these days.”
Hardik Pandya was impressed with Suryakumar Yadav’s incredible batting performance and credited him for the win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. Hardik Pandya said:
“It’s unbelievable, SKY’s best history is putting pressure on the bowlers. It’s pure confidence, his game has changed, he’s one of the best batsmen. He can change a game in a different way, I’m lucky to have him (SKY) on our side.”
