Mercedes-Benz’s Electric G-Wagen Comes with a Ridiculous New Name

Like almost every global automaker Mercedes is working on electrification its entire range in the coming decade. This started with its flashy limousines Introduction of the EQS and it followed Duo of electric SUVs. The company is now preparing to electrify one of them his most famous modelsbut it was decided to give it a ridiculously long name.

We knew about it the all-electric G-Wagen for some time now, with Mercedes announcing its release last year. The German automaker confirmed that a production-ready model will be available later this month on April 24th. Reports AutoExpress.

When the car finally hits the road, it won’t have a catchy name like the G-Wagen Electric, or even the EQG to comply with current naming conventions for Mercedes electric vehicles. Instead, Mercedes has opted to crown the G580 with EQ technology. As AutoExpress Reports:

The all-electric version of the iconic Mercedes G-Class 4×4 will finally be unveiled in Beijing on April 24, and as it turns out, it won’t be known as the Mercedes EQG after all. Instead, the electric G-Wagen will be sold as the “G 580 with EQ technology,” which is more in line with the rest of the G-Class model range.

The regular G-Class has just been updated so that every model in the range now has two 12.3-inch screens with Mercedes’ latest MBUX infotainment system, a new steering wheel design and a touchpad on the center console. Additionally, more off-road modes have been added and adaptive suspension is now standard across the range.

AutoExpress predicts that these updates will likely be available the electric G-Wagen when it hits the market in a few weeks. Additionally, the new model is likely to look very similar to its gasoline-powered counterpart, if recent spy photos and teaser images are to be believed.

The electric G-Wagen is expected to have a closed grille.

The only real differences between the battery powered ones G-Wagen and the petrol model They are expected to be on the front fascia, with the electric variant expected to feature a hidden grille as well as other aerodynamic embellishments on the fenders and alloy wheels.

Is this a car you’re excited about? Or is it just another case of automakers building the wrong electric vehicles for most people? Check out the comments to let us know and also let us know what you think they should have really called G580 with EQ technology.
