“Melrose Place Reboot With Heather Locklear in the Works”

West Hollywood’s most famous residents return!

ET learned that a Melrose Place A reboot is in the works at CBS Studios, with Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga set to reprise their iconic TV characters. Created by Darren Star, the series is currently in development and will be written and executive produced by Lauren Gussis.

“When one of their dearest friends suddenly dies, the upstairs residents of Melrose Place gather to honor the deceased. “But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, rekindles old resentments and reveals new secrets, plunging our characters into a chaotic drama reminiscent of the past but with a much more modern perspective,” it says in the log line of the series.

The departed cast member has yet to be announced, but we know that Locklear will return as Amanda Woodward, Leighton is back as Sydney Andrews, and Zuniga will reprise her role as Jo Reynolds.

Melrose Place was the spin-off of Star’s already popular teen drama, Beverly Hills, 90210 and focused on a group of friends who experienced everything from love, heartbreak, betrayal and even a fake death in their apartment complex. The series ran for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999 and also had a rotating cast including Andrew Shue, Josie Bissett, Kelly Rutherford, Lisa Rinna, Jack Wagner and Alyssa Milano.

The series was briefly rebooted for one season on the CW in 2009.

And in 2020, ten of the original series’ stars, including Locklear, appeared at a virtual gathering to support the Actor’s Fund during the pandemic.

Shortly after Melrose Place Reunion – which marked the first time the cast was together again in almost a decade – ET spoke with Bissett, Leighton and Zunigawho shared how they have all remained connected over the years.

“Of course we’ve stayed in touch over the years, but recently we’ve reconnected and it’s been so great to have those friends we had in our early 20s,” Leighton said. “So much has happened in our careers and in our lives but we have stayed in touch and it has been great to have reasons to get together and catch up on everything we have had to do. It’s nice to reminisce.”

“For me, it was a long-term family,” Zuniga said, reflecting on her time on the show. “I remember just being there and feeling the familiarity. We rode motorcycles together at the weekend and I think we did Pilates with Laura. I just remember the family part of it, which was really great, and it was a time when… We didn’t have phones. I think we’d go to the mall in the meantime.

When asked if she would be willing to turn the key and return to the infamous apartment complex, Bissett said she was “definitely open” to the idea.
