Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who is undoubtedly one of the best fielders in the franchise, scored an incredible direct hit to dismiss in-form Mumbai Indians (MI) batsman Tilak Varma on Tuesday, April 30, Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana cricket stadium in Lucknow.
Tilak Varma has been the biggest asset for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the batting department in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Although the entire team struggled and there were speculations of the team splitting into two groups after Hardik Pandya was appointed captain, Tilak Varma remained fully focused on his batting and scored runs consistently.
In 10 games, Tilak Varma has scored 343 runs for the franchise at a good average of 42.88 and an astonishing strike rate of 153.81. The left-handed batsman has hit three half-centuries in the competition so far.
Tilak Varma came into the game against LSG in great form as he had scored two 60+ points in his previous two games against Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. However, he was unable to continue his brilliant form and took a long walk back to the pavilion after being sent off for 11-ball 7 against LSG.
On the first ball of the 6th over, Naveen-ul-Haq bowled a full-length ball to Tilak, who clipped his pads. The players immediately made an LBW appeal and the ball rolled towards Ravi Bishnoi at backward point. The spinner quickly grabbed the ball and scored a sensational direct hit to end Tilak Varma’s innings.

As for Ravi Bishnoi, he was recently left out of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee despite being ranked in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings took fifth place. India have selected Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal as four spin bowlers in the team.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants had won the toss and decided to bowl first in the game. During the toss, KL Rahul said that they decided to bowl first because they wanted to put pressure on the MI batters. KL Rahul explained:
“We will bowl first. Wicket looks good, we want to put their batters under pressure and try to chase them. We will try to stay as balanced as possible. We have to come out and put on a show. We had a few good wins.” .
“Just a few changes, Quinton is missing out. Kulkarni is in the team. Mayank is also back. He bowled really well, he made a big impact. I called on the team of physiotherapists and doctors. Mayank can’t wait to join in. This is important.” He no longer knows that he had an injury.
The decision to bowl proved to be great for the team as the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers did a great job reducing Mumbai Indians to 27/4 in 5.2 overs.
