Mumbai Indians had a forgettable start with the bat. Rohit Sharma (4), Suryakumar Yadav (10), Tilak Varma (7) and Hardik Pandya died early as the five-time champions fell 27-4 at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.
As the team was under immense pressure, openers Ishan Kishan (32) and Nehal Wadhera (46) joined forces and bailed out the team. The Kishan-Wadhera duo added 53 runs for the fifth wicket and took Mumbai Indians to over 100 runs, which at a moment seemed impossible.
Tim David (35) played an important hand in the end and took Mumbai to a total of 144 runs. For Lucknow Super Giants, left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan was the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 2/36.
In the chase, Lucknow Super Giants got off to a shaky start with the bat. Debutant Arshin Kulkarni scored a good duck in the first round. After that, skipper KL Rahul (28) and Marcus Stoinis dominated proceedings and added 58 runs for the second wicket.
Stoinis (62) scored a brave half-time goal and brought his team close to victory. Nicholas Pooran and Krunal Pandya led their team to a comfortable four-wicket win in the end, although Mumbai Indians made an easy comeback.
