‘Little People, Big World’: Matt Roloff Opens up After NDA is Lifted

Matt Roloff speaks like never before about his family’s time on the TLC series, Small people, big world. The 62-year-old father of four recorded it Facebook after last week’s final episode to speak openly for the first time about the future of his family’s show.

Matt wrote that he was no longer “under a non-disclosure agreement” and said he can now “speak much more freely” than he has been able to in the last 20 years. He shared that many people asked whether last week’s episode was a “season” or “series” finale for the hit reality show.

“It is true that several family members have publicly stated that they are no longer interested in filming LPBW,” Matt wrote, seemingly referring to his estranged son Zach Roloff and his wife Tori. He added that he and his ex-wife Amy Roloff had known about it “for quite some time.”

The reality star shared that the family “fulfilled our contractual obligations and completed filming last September 2023.”

Matt believes that TLC chose not to call the episode a series finale in the hopes that specials featuring the Roloff family would be in the works in the future.

He shared that the family first told TLC in 2010 that they were done filming the show and that the network made some changes to entice them to return through “specials.”

“That’s why I think TLC is a little hesitant to announce that the show is over,” Matt shared. “While the family as a whole is enjoying an escape from everyday life after 19 to 20 years, Caryn and many other family members have publicly stated that they are done filming.”

Matt and his fiancée Caryn Chandler both appeared in the show’s final seasons amid growing family tensions.

Matt noted that he can’t predict the future and praised the way the show wrapped up its recent finale.

“I do think that TLC did a good job in last Tuesday’s ‘Season Finale’ episode of hedging its bets and setting a nice tone for the show and the position of the family (members still participating),” wrote he. “So if LPBW never comes back (in whatever other forms), I think we can agree that they’ve wrapped up the Roloff LPBW crazy train saga pretty well – that’s why many of you felt like it was a series finale .”

Matt also spoke about the controversy surrounding the sale of his farm, which caused estrangement within the family. He noticed tensions between his twin sons, Zach and Jeremy Roloff, who both wanted the big house on the farm.

“To be honest, all four (4) of my children and all the grandchildren played and weighed the heaviest,” he said. “Jer and Zach each figured out (in their own timing) that the idea of breaking away from me and the farm (as you all have known it over the last few years) and individually building their own homesteads… achieving their own dreams …” . Bridges… Barns… Businesses and Projects – It fills my heart to see this process in progress – It wasn’t easy… especially during filming… and sometimes even very painful… But on Everything ended up being productive and although in hindsight I would change some of my processes… I believe the results are better and I love watching ALL the kids find their independence and passions on their own terms.”

Matt also shared details about his own health and love life with Caryn. He noted that he has not set a wedding date, but shared that the couple moved into their dream home back in December and hosted many family members, including his ex-girlfriend Amy and her husband Chris Marek.

“I feel healthier and happier than I have in years,” Matt shared. “Both Caryn and I feel very lucky and are living our best life together.”

Small people, big world Premiered in 2006 with then-married Matt and Amy and their four children – Zach, Jeremy, Molly and Jacob Roloff. As time went on, all of her children except Zach left the show.

In 2022, Matt told ET that the status of the family dynamic is “on the right track.”

“It’s not easy, but it’s going in the right direction,” Matt added.

At the time, he also addressed when it was time to turn off the cameras, saying, “We do it day by day, week by week, month by month, so we just take it one step at a time.” Evaluate each year “We’re trying to figure out where we’re going and whether we can share more positive things, and we’re just taking it as it is.”
