After a groundbreaking awards season, she celebrated her appearance in Flower Moon Killer, Lily Gladstone made her debut on another iconic red carpet on Monday, attending the 2024 Met Gala.
The actress stunned in a black studded dress and cape designed to look like the stars. She accentuated the look with a silver hair clip that depicted the moon. The ensemble was a collaboration between designer Gabriela Hearst and Kiowa artist Keri Ataumbi, adding local influences that gave the Oscar nominee’s fashion even more meaning.
“We need fierce warriors on the front lines and she’s one of them,” praised Gladstone Hearst, who joined her as she spoke to ET’s Rachel Smith on the Met Gala carpet.
“Both Kiowa and Blackfeet, my nation, have an origin in the stars,” she shared. “Our people came from the stars and that is where we will return when we leave this earth. We join the Milky Way, we join our ancestors, and these are the stars for us.”
“That’s why Keri and Gabriela wanted me to be wrapped in the power of my ancestors,” she added, as Hearst tuned in the stars to represent “the great plains on June 21st.”
“Summer solstice, it’s the most powerful time of the year,” Gladstone added of her powerful look.
Gladstone’s attendance at the Met Gala comes just months after her acclaimed appearance in Martin Scorsese Her latest epic, centering on the real-life systematic murders of members of the Osage Nation over oil rights in 1920s Oklahoma, made her the first Native American to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama, the first to do so was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress.
In her Golden Globes acceptance speech, she dedicated the honor to “every little Rez kid, every little city kid, every little local kid out there who dreams of seeing themselves represented and having our stories told by ourselves in our own words.” “see tremendous allies and tremendous trust with each other and each other.”
This year’s Met Gala theme is “Sleeping Beauty: Fashion Resurgent.” Max Hollein, CEO of The Met, said: a statement that the “innovative” exhibition – and the associated one star-studded annual fundraising gala – should “expand the boundaries of our imagination and invite us to experience the multisensory facets of a garment.”
