Ladies European Tour: Rosie Davies in Contention as Manon De Roey Leads the South African Women’s Open

Rosie Davies made a late birdie to stay within one shot of the half-time lead at the Ladies European Tour’s Investec South African Women’s Open.

Davies birdied each of her final three holes to secure a second-round score of 71 in difficult conditions at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate. That put her at seven under and kept in touch with Manon De Roey, the middle path pacesetter.

The overnight co-leader started on the back nine and opened with seven straight pars before seeing a long-range birdie on the par-4 17th that was canceled out by a bogey on the par-3 second hole.

Davies lost ground with a double bogey on the par-4 sixth, but managed birdie-birdie-birdie to ensure she would be eliminated in the final group on Saturday.

“The start on the back nine was difficult when the wind was at its strongest. I kept my head down and kept concentrating on the next shot,” said Davies. “I worked really hard with my caddy Alex. I feel like I stole one on 17, I threw in a long shot there that gave me some momentum heading into my back nine.”

“It was a tiring day that gave me a bit of energy. You can’t ask for more than finishing with three birdies and I’m now looking forward to the weekend.”

De Roey topped the leaderboard after mixing eight birdies and three bogeys in a brilliant five-under 67, the lowest round of the day, while Sweden’s Lisa Pettersson, New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori and England’s Annabell Fuller had three Share third place, strokes behind.
