LA Police Chase Ends in Fatal Lamborghini Crash

  • Police detained 51-year-old Elliott Dugan in what was believed to be a stolen Lamborghini.
  • After they informed Dugan of the status of the car, he drove away from the stop at a high rate of speed.
  • A few moments later he crashed into the median and died at the scene.

Running from the police is never a good idea, as one driver tragically learned when West Valley Patrol officers pulled up next to a gray 2019 Lamborghini Huracan around 5 a.m. on April 6.

As they got closer, they noticed the driver was asleep at the wheel. When they decided to stop him, they probably didn’t expect that the driver would soon be dead and the Lamborghini would be just a mangled heap of parts scattered on the road.

A video released by the LAPD shows that about 15 seconds pass after the light turns green before the Lamborghini driver drives off. The officers immediately sounded the sirens and initiated a traffic stop. The driver stops and the police approach the vehicle. They explain that they saw the driver sleeping and get his driver’s license. He claims the vehicle is a rental car and one of the officers retreats to the patrol car.

At the patrol car, the officer learns that the driver, Elliott Dugan, has several arrest warrants and that the Lamborghini is allegedly stolen. He returns to the Huracan and tries to get Mr. Dugan to get out of the vehicle. After several attempts to get him to comply, the officer informs the driver that the vehicle is showing as stolen in the system. Dugan then takes off and officers rush back to their vehicle to begin the pursuit.

However, it doesn’t last long as Dugan crashes at a speed of around 111 mph (according to police). The Lamborghini falls apart into so many pieces that it is no longer recognizable. Dugan was thrown several hundred feet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“As part of the investigation, a pursuit investigation was also initiated,” said LAPD Capt. Kelly Muniz. “This pursuit investigation will be reviewed by the department upon completion for compliance with the law and department policy. Over the next few months, the LAPD will continue to investigate and analyze this incident. We will continue to interview any new witnesses who come forward and conduct any forensic testing.”

No one was injured in the accident, but there was damage to other vehicles in the area of the accident.
