Kylie Minogue And Chris Martin At first they were fans of each other before becoming close friends.
“I mean, I was a Coldplay fan millennium. I may have worn out the CD,” Minogue, 55, said exclusively Us weekly At the TIME 100 Gala on Thursday, April 25, about the “beautiful words” Martin wrote about her in a sweet letter. “I was just like, there’s mutual respect and admiration, friendship and love.”
Minogue was one of the award winners for TIMEThe 100 most influential people. Earlier this month, Martin, 47, penned a sweet tribute to his friend, which Minogue was “very touched” by.
“Kylie Minogue was one of the first people I ever met on television. She was a pop star and I had watched her Neighbors every day for a decade,” Martin wrote for TIME. “So when she came to an early Coldplay show, I had already been her fan for almost 15 years.”
The rock star shared that Minogue is “so inspiring” to him as she completes all of her projects with “passion and dedication.”
“She always seems to be ten years ahead of everyone else, and she’s an artist who knows how to be helpful and make songs that fans love for years to come,” he continued. “Kylie creates a space where everyone can safely be themselves. When I look at her I feel hope. She is proof that there are people who don’t judge.”
Both Minogue and the Coldplay frontman are titans of the music industry and have become trailblazers in their respective genres. However, Minogue believes there is “always more to discover” for her and Martin’s artistry and that they can lean on each other as they reach further milestones.
“We’re probably both at an age where you can stop, think about what we’ve experienced and celebrate,” she explained. “I can’t speak for him, but I can say for myself that the relationship that has existed for decades with so many people, for some it might be a fleeting relationship, for others it might just be formed [to know] Me [in] last year. But it’s all about connection and energy.”
A pop star for almost four decades, Minogue admitted she recently gained new fans after her 2023 single “Padam Padam” went viral and became an anthem in the LGBTQIA+ community.
“When I started, I probably didn’t see it that way. It’s all about the music, the performance and the delivery. But as time goes on, I’m always amazed that I’m part of some people’s lives,” she told us. “People will never meet because they are a part of me and there is something cosmic and beautiful about that.”
