Kim KardashianHer gray sweater from the Met Gala made headlines, but her metallic dress had even more interesting features! The 43-year-old explained multi-hyphenate Fashion that her look included a “custom-made” thong because Maison Margiela designer John Galliano wanted to ensure she was “fully covered” for photos.
“So, I have a custom Margiela thong,” Kim told the outlet in a video interview shared on Tuesday, May 7, a day after the star-studded event in New York City.
The Kardashians Star added that her designer thought of “every last detail” when it came to her outfit. Kim went on to explain how John made sure she was camera ready.
“When you’re standing at the top of the stairs but the photographers are down there looking up and the skirt is metal and there’s little peepholes in it. He wanted to make sure I was completely covered in the appropriate places,” Kim explained Tanga.
Aside from her well-made underwear, Kim also explained that her shoes don’t have heels – just a high, see-through platform for walking.
“This is my shoe. That’s clever because if I had a shoe with a heel, the heel would get caught in the metal skirt,” she pointed out, adding, “And that was our problem when walking. To wear these, you stand on your tiptoes, balancing the entire time and tensing your calf muscles. So I have to stand on my tiptoes.”
As for why she chose to wear complex footwear, the SKIMS boss stated that she wanted more “size” for the upscale event.
“I think we really need the size with this look, so we gotta do what we gotta do,” Kim concluded.
The Hulu personality’s metallic ensemble caused quite a stir on social media after she walked the red carpet on Monday, May 6. Aside from accentuating her waist with the tight corset, Kim’s sweater also turned heads. Some assumed she was clinging to the scarf to cover up a wardrobe malfunction. However, Kim noticed in her Fashion Video interview that she was simply inspired by “the wildest night of.” [her] Life in a Garden,” in keeping with the Met Gala’s theme, “The Garden of Time.”
“I just ran out, grabbed my friend’s sweater, put it on and got to work. And my hair is a total mess,” she said, describing her take on the entire look.
