Kalki talks about the reason behind her absence from films

In a recent interview with HT City, Kalki Koechlin spoke about the reason that keeps her away from films. The diva, who is enjoying the bliss of motherhood, revealed that she was particularly selective about choosing her films as she doesn’t want to be away from her daughter for long. Additionally, she dismissed speculation about not having enough work and revealed that she prefers to wait and then land on a gem of a script. In her words:

“I’m particularly picky now because I don’t want to be away from my daughter unless I have something really exciting to do. Getting quality work is a one-time thing. We’ll have to wait and see. Not every script you get is going to be a gem.”

Kalki discusses how women over 40 are less likely to get equal opportunities in films

Later in the conversation, Kalki discussed how she felt actresses over 40 faced major limitations when it came to achieving equal employment opportunities in the film industry. She noted that people are quite harsh in such cases without even knowing the physical and mental condition of women who are going through physical changes at this age. She expressed even more and said:

“People are so hard on women over 40. They don’t know anything about women over 40. They don’t know what happens to our bodies, they don’t know much about menopause. That’s also because we don’t write about it.”

In one of her earlier interviews with Siddhaarth Aalambayan on his show: The male feministKalki Koechlin spoke openly about the various disadvantages and prejudices she faced as a white girl in India. She remembered people misunderstanding her because of her skin tone. Furthermore, she added that people often asked her if she had drugs with her.

When Kalki talked about saving herself from a near-casting situation on the couch

In the same interview, Kalki Koechlin recalled a time when she was about to meet the casting coach and give an audition for a role in a film. She remembered how the filmmaker called her to his house and she noticed closed blinds throughout the room. She told more and added:

“There was a movie I auditioned for that I really liked and they called me back and said all you have to do is meet the producer.” So I met the producer in his office with the blinds down and he said : “So you know this is going to be your big opportunity.” You’re going to make it and I’d really like to get to know you better. Can we go to dinner?’ I got it and said, ‘Listen, this isn’t for me.’ I’m not into it.”
