Kaiser Permanente Deploys Innovaccer’s Value-based Care AI Across Washington – MedCity News

Kaiser Permanente announced this week a major AI partnership aimed at improving value-based care. The West Coast-based health system is deploying Innovaccer’s healthcare AI platform and population health management tools, initially in the Washington market and potentially expanding to new markets in the future.

This initial deployment, which will serve approximately 650,000 patients in Washington, is expected to be completed this summer.

“As we continue to expand our unique offering of flexible capabilities, tools and services – developed by physicians and experts and based on real-world insights and best practices – we are excited at the prospect of bringing together advanced technologies and solutions that can help us accelerate our ability to provide the best value to our patients and our organization,” Paul Minardi, CEO of the KP Medical Foundation, said in a statement.

Innovaccer, based in San Francisco, was founded in 2014. The health technology company specializes in data-driven solutions that help providers improve patient care and operational efficiency.

Its healthcare AI platform helps simplify patient care by bringing together data from various disparate sources. By combining all this information, the platform provides a complete and detailed view of each patient’s health status, explained Abhinav Shashank, CEO of Innovaccer.

“This helps doctors, nurses and other medical professionals gain a clearer understanding of each patient’s situation and provide better care. Therefore, it is not just a point application of AI but a holistic approach to AI in healthcare that helps the healthcare ecosystem move from data to data-driven decisions,” he noted.

Innovaccer’s population health product is the other solution Kaiser is using in its Washington market. Similar to its AI product, Innovaccer’s population health platform consolidates patient data from multiple sources, including the EHR, lab results and insurance claims.

With this comprehensive view, Innovaccer’s platform then applies algorithms to identify potential health risks, predict future medical costs and measure the quality of care provided.

“For example, the platform can assess a patient’s likelihood of developing chronic diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure, allowing healthcare providers to intervene early and mitigate risks. Gaps in care can also be uncovered, such as missed checkups or follow-up appointments, which can then be addressed immediately,” said Shashank.

The population health product also provides hospitals with real-time reports and dashboards that enable healthcare providers to better monitor the health status of all patients under their care, he added.

With Innovaccer’s technology, Kaiser will be able to “spend billions of dollars replacing or modifying its EHR and claims systems,” Shashank explained. Instead, the healthcare AI and population health platforms provide a unified data layer that integrates with Kaiser’s existing infrastructure, enabling a standardized approach to healthcare delivery across locations, he noted.

“This unified approach enables Kaiser to scale its best-in-class clinical processes across the country, ensuring consistent care delivery regardless of location. “The unified health record makes it easier for healthcare professionals to track patient history, treatments and outcomes, enabling better coordination and more informed decision-making,” said Shashank.
