Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp is set to make a sensational return to Borussia Dortmund as “head of football” in 2025, according to a report.
Klopp announced in January that he would step down at Anfield at the end of the 2023/24 season, having informed the board of his decision two months earlier, citing fatigue as one of the main reasons.
The Independent There is reportedly talk of Klopp returning to Dortmund next summer in a new role, potentially returning as their ‘head of football’.
Klopp coached Dortmund for seven years between 2008 and 2015, winning two Bundesliga titles, leading the team to the Champions League final and turning them back into the European heavyweights they are today.
Under the leadership of Edin Terzic, Dortmund reached the semi-finals of the Champions League this season – the first time since Klopp’s run to the final in 2013.
As part of his announcement earlier this year, Klopp confirmed he would be stepping away from management for a year and may only return to football in a different role, while he would not coach in England again out of respect for Liverpool.
“I have to find another purpose too, I have to look for it. If you ask me, ‘Will you ever work as a manager again?’ “I would say now: No. But of course I don’t know how it will feel because I’ve never had this situation,” Klopp said in January.
“What I know for sure: I will never, ever manage any club in England other than Liverpool, 100 percent. This is not possible. My love for this club, my respect for the people is too great.
