JoJo Siwa does not recommend moving in with your significant other as a teenager! The former child star reflected on her questionable dating decisions during her appearance on the latest season Call her dad Podcast episode.
After sharing that her parents and brother had recently moved out of their shared house, Siwa recalled the time when she lived under the same roof with her parents and her friend.
“As a 20-year-old, I look at 16-year-olds and think, ‘Oh my God. You’re the age my girlfriend was when she moved into my house,” she told host Alex Cooper. She noted that she was only “nine months older” at the time. “Of course, U-Haul lesbians are a very real thing because I was one without even knowing what one was.”
Looking back on the unconventional arrangement, Siwa cited the COVID-19 pandemic as a big part of what led to their living together. “It [was] COVID, it was summer. Everything just happened. Then she came to California and then I said, ‘Don’t go away,'” Siwa said. “Two weeks turned into four weeks, eight weeks, nine months.” Then, when we were a married couple at 17 and 16, we had to separate.
Time has given the dancer a clearer view of the situation. “Looking back, we all think, ‘That should never have happened.’ My mother constantly says, ‘I should never have allowed my 16-year-old’s partner to live with us. That wasn’t healthy for you.’ “Let alone she and her family should have done something about it.” But back then, no one thought it was right,” she added.
Although Siwa doesn’t mention her ex’s name, the timeline points to her Ex-girlfriend Kylie Prewwho Siwa began dating after meeting on a cruise in 2020.
Siva came out in January 2021 and introduced Prew as her friend on the occasion of their one-month anniversary in February 2021. The Nickelodeon star appeared in September of the same year told ET that it was “really fun” to have Prew’s support in projects like The J Team.
“Of course, all my life I have had my mother, who has always been by my side and whom I love so much. Literally my rock forever. And it’s cool to experience love and support in a different way, guess what? I mean? … That love makes everything so much greater,” she shared. It just adds and it’s great.

Prew continued: “We are both safe, happy and healthy and that is the only thing that matters. It doesn’t have to be a drama because that gives everyone unwanted anxiety, especially if they’re like me.”
Siwa, who has since been romantically linked to TikTok stars Avery Cyrus And Katie Millstold Cooper that Prew is still her “good friend” and gushed that the two still talk “all the time.”
Earlier this month, the former child star ushered in a new NSFW era by embarking on a more mature chapter ahead of her 21st birthday. Siwa recently spoke to ET on the set of her video for “Karma,” in which she talked about navigating a new phase in her life and her career after breaking ground with young fans.
“We were trying to figure out the best way to navigate,” she admitted. “I have such a young fan base and a lot of kids who watch JoJo Siwa and still follow my music from years ago. However, I’m not the same person I was when I was 14.”
