JoJo Siwais mom, Jessalynn Siwathanked the former Dancing mothers Star for not abandoning her family at 18 years old.
“My mom actually said something really sweet to me today,” Siwa, 20, said during her “Call Her Daddy” podcast appearance on Wednesday, April 10. “As a child, 15 percent of every penny you earn goes away.” into a Coogan account [to protect children’s earnings]. My parents thought when I turned 18 I would get the money from my Coogan account, take all my money and make it all mine.”
Instead of telling Jessalynn and her dad “Good luck everyone,” Tom SiwaThe singer made it clear that that was not her plan.
“I thought, ‘I can reassure you so much, but I’ll never do that,'” JoJo shared. “That has always been a fear of theirs, always. Just because the opportunity for me to leave her high and dry was right there. People have done it before. Child stars have done it before, but I would never do that to my family.”
She continued, “Today my mom said, ‘I just want to say thank you for basically never kicking us to the side of the road.’ Thank you for buying us this new house. Thank you for allowing us to remodel it. Thank you for keeping us in your bubble.’”
During Wednesday’s podcast episode, JoJo revealed that it was moving day for her parents after she bought them a new house. After her mother’s words of thanks, JoJo joked, “Finally, two years later, you believe me.”
JoJo admitted it was “interesting” growing up in the house she bought with her parents, especially when one of the former reality star’s friends moved in.
“As a 20-year-old, I look at a 16-year-old and think, ‘Oh my God, you’re the age my girlfriend was when she moved into my house,'” JoJo said. “I don’t know how it happened.”
Podcast host Alex Cooper wondered if JoJo’s parents had said anything about living together at such a young age.
“Looking back, we all think, ‘That should never have happened.’ My mom keeps saying… I should never have allowed my 16 year old’s partner to live with us. That wasn’t healthy for you. And certainly not her and her family,” JoJo admitted. “Someone should have stepped on the gas. But at the time, no one thought it was right.”
Reflecting on her success at such a young age, JoJo said there was also plenty of opportunity for her family to “take advantage” of the money she earned.
“They all had access to everything,” she said. “They all basically had the chance to take the chance and escape. Nobody did.”
