Johnny Lever is one of the most popular comedians in Bollywood. Be it his perfect comedic timing or his apt expressions, Johnny has undoubtedly secured a special place in millions of hearts. As for his personal life, he is married to Sujatha Lever and together the duo is blessed with two children, a son, Jesse, and a daughter, Jamie. Jamie also followed in her father’s footsteps and pursued her dream of becoming a comedian. She made her first appearance in 2012 The comedy show in Mumbai. She was then seen in many shows such as: Comedy Circus Ke Mahabali and also in films, including Kis Kis Ko Pyar Karoon, Housefull 4, And Bhoot police.
How was Johnny Lever’s name changed from “John Rao Janumala”?
Now, we came across a candid conversation between Jamie Lever and Deepak Pareek where she revealed the backstory of how her father Johnny Lever’s name was changed from the original name. At the beginning of the video, Jamie can be heard saying: “Unhone Lever kyun dala? There is a backstory.” Soon the interviewer asked her, “But what is the Lever story?” She explained that it all started when Johnny was a worker at the renowned company Hindustan Lever. Jamie also revealed how her father always entertained people with his comedy:
“For my father because he worked as a Hindustan lever. And he had, I think, an annual program every year where he would perform and imitate everyone. And he used to pull everyone. So people loved watching him. And we.” He was just a normal worker in the company. He imitated all the leaders of the company: his managers, his superiors, and everyone else.

In the same conversation, the loving daughter mentioned that Johnny constantly appeared at the annual events of his then company, Hindustan Lever, imitating every employee there. Undoubtedly, people loved Johnny’s performance. Soon after, one of his superiors was pleased with his sense of comedy and nicknamed him “Johnny Lever”, completely changing his name from the original name “John Rao Janumala”. Jamie added:
“They were so impressed with him. They said, ‘I think the real thing was that one of his superiors came on stage and recognized him or honored him, and he said, ‘You did a Lever gig today. So from today on, your name is Johnny Lever. And it’s become such a catchy name for him that he can just keep it. Can’t you even imagine that? face with that name.

Jamie once revealed why her father told her to cry before going out
Jamie is very close to her father Johnny and the loving daughter always talks about certain things from their strong bond. Once, in a candid conversation with ETimes, Jamie spoke about the initial years of her journey as a comedian. The actress shared that her father always supported her decision and trained her hard for the real world. She explained that her father knew that she would be judged for her achievements and compared to him. Therefore, her father wanted her to be well prepared before entering the entertainment business.

Jamie went further in the interview and mentioned that she is just a newbie compared to her father Johnny, who has appeared in more than 300-400 films in his Bollywood career. She also admitted that there were times when she cried while preparing to become a comedian. But then her father gave Johnny intensive mental training. He told her that instead of going out and crying, she should cry at home first and this became a significant learning experience in her life. That’s why, despite many difficulties, she never thought about quitting for a second. Explaining the same, she explained:
“He (Johnny Lever) would say, ‘Tu bahar jaane se pehle yahan ro le taaki bahar rona na pade’. He made sure I understood and learned the hard way. I cried before saying every joke but I am very happy and I am grateful that I have seen this phase too and because of this experience I have become hard. They say comedy comes from tragedy, so even I had to endure a few tragedies, but it’s okay. There is a Kapoor Khaandaan, I want to do ‘Lever khaandaan’.
