Jessica McCaskill Warns She is ‘on a Level Above’ Lauren Price Ahead of World Title Defense in Cardiff

Former undisputed world champion Jessica McCaskill will travel to Cardiff to fight Olympic champion Lauren Price live on Sky Sports on May 11.

The highly decorated champion is aiming for another successful defense of the WBA welterweight belt, a weight class in which she has yet to suffer defeat.

Price, who is still just 6-0 as a professional, will attempt to become the first Welsh women’s world champion.

“I don’t know much about her and what she did. I saw her fight Kirstie Bavington but that’s all. “It’s not unusual, even though I’m from the US, it’s like two different worlds,” McCaskill told Sky Sports.

She warned: “Every fight I’ve had has taken me to a higher level. That should get me over Lauren Price because she has only had a few professional fights.”

Johnny Nelson believes Jessica McCaskill will look to use her experience to her advantage ahead of May’s fight with Lauren Price, who is fighting for a world title in just her seventh professional fight

“Amateur is amateur and professional is professional, you can’t mix the two.”

Price may not match McCaskill’s professional experience, but she is still favored by many to win. McCaskill appears to be aware of the dangers of a youthful and hungry challenger.

“Lauren is smart enough not to do certain things and to make herself available in certain situations. The plan will be.” [about] I’m getting to the point where I can land a clean shot,” Chicago’s McCaskill said.

“I saw a lot of mistakes from their opponents [where I’m] Question: Why did you do that? And then I can’t watch anymore. We want to make sure we are smart. Cut the ring correctly.

The fight will be McCaskill’s 11th consecutive world title fight

“The fight could be me chasing them or me fighting them. We’ve seen, particularly in female fights, that there’s this hit-and-hold game. European fighters will hold.”

“I don’t rely on one particular thing. I see certain maneuvers from her. I’m not sure if she has that level of maturity in boxing yet, but we’ll see.”

For the 39-year-old McCaskill, who has worked her way to the top, taking part in her 11th consecutive world title fight is nothing short of extraordinary.

“There are so many things behind boxing that people don’t talk about and I think those are really important elements, especially now that things from the past are being highlighted,” she said.

“These old deals and contracts are costing people money. We did things right and that’s why we’re here today to talk about it.”

As a two-weight world champion, McCaskill wants to venture into hostile territory and emerge with an improved reputation.

“Look, you can travel here, make a name for yourself and steal the fans,” she explained.

McCaskill is confident that nine years in the professional ranks will help her emerge victorious in her fight with Price

“I want to put on a great show. You have great boxing fans.”

McCaskill believes this fight could see her face another British world champion, Natasha Jonas, who holds the IBF welterweight title.

“Natasha and I have had conversations. We would like to fight Natasha. She has a lot of fans and is nearing the end of her career but definitely deserves more title fights before she’s done,” McCaskill said.

“I know that Jonas is technically savvy and has experience. She’s definitely the trophy at the end of the rainbow I’m looking for.”

It is one of the biggest sporting events in a generation. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk collide for the undisputed world heavyweight championship on Saturday May 18th, live on Sky Sports Box Office. Book the fight now.
