Jared Leto could be the main protagonist the upcoming one Tron: Ares, but we now know that the face of the franchise will also be joining him. In a new podcast, Jeff Bridges revealed that he is returning the third film in a series that he headlined both in 1The original from 982 and the sequel from 2010.
“I’m setting off this Saturday to take part in the third part of the film Tron Story. I’m really happy about that,” said Bridges Film commentary podcast, about 29 minutes into this link. “[Jared] Leto is the star of this third part. I can’t wait to work with him. I admired his work.” It’s definitely worth listening to the interview to hear Bridges remember the white leotard he had to wear Tronas well as the motion capture technology he had to endure while being “de-aged.” Tron: Legacy (“I didn’t like the way I looked…I felt like I looked more like Bill Maher than myself. It was kind of bizarre.”) He also talks excitedly about it Tron: Ares‘ “Beautiful” practical sets.
In the original TronBridges played Kevin Flynn, a genius computer programmer who gets drawn into an undiscovered digital world. He reprized the role in the sequel Tron: Legacy, both as a character 30 years later and as a digital version of him named Clu. At the end of the film, both characters appear to die, but it’s not 100% final – and we also know that copies are easy to come by in a digital world. io9 has reached out to Disney for comment or clarification on the news and has not received a response at the time of publication. However, the studio confirmed the casting news with this tweet:

What news does The goal is to firmly tie a seemingly independent story into the history and world of the previous films. And that in the picture is an original Grid helmet from 1984, right? Is this some kind of joke?
