Jeep and Ram Are Recalling 12 Vehicles Due to Backup Camera and ESC Malfunctions

  • Jeep is recalling 10 Grand Cherokees due to a bug that prevents the rearview camera image from displaying
  • Two Ram Promasters were recalled to tighten a loose ground nut on the ABS module
  • All affected vehicles have already been repaired, says Stellantis

The last thing Stellantis service centers need is another recall. You’re already dealing with large vehicles like the more than 300,000 Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s that need their airbags replaced. So you’ll be relieved to hear that the three new recalls only affect twelve Ram and Jeep vehicles.

It was discovered that eight copies of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, consisting of five regular 2022-23 Chezzas and three long 2023-24 Chezzas, may not be able to display the image from their rearview cameras, which is not only inconvenient, but also illegal according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS).

The problem was attributed to an improperly connected coaxial cable, which caused problems with reception and display of the image on the screen. Stellantis announced a second, closely related Grand Cherokee recall to repair an improperly secured backup camera connector on the Display Screen Module (“DSM”) that may be preventing the camera signal from reaching the media screen.

This only affects two individual SUVs, a standard-length Grand and an L, and like the first error, the problem came to light in January 2023, but has only now led to a recall.

And finally, to share some of that memory fun and prevent Jeep from feeling like it’s the only Stellantis brand doing something wrong, Ram is chiming in with an announcement about a problem with the Promaster. It has been discovered that some vans manufactured for the 2021 model year have a loose ground wire for the ABS module, which could result in the ESC stability system not functioning.

The simple attachment of the delivery brick based on the Fiat Ducato does not require anything more complicated than tightening the grounding nut. This has actually already been done on the two affected Rams, and all Cherokees have had their repairs completed as well, meaning this recall announcement is just a formality. But don’t be discouraged. There will be another one every day.
