EXCLUSIVE: Jake Lacy (Apples never fall) and Nazanin Boniadi (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) have stopped production A mosquito in the eara new film marking the feature film debut of BAFTA newcomer Nicola Rinciari.
An adaptation of the Italian graphic novel A mosquito in the ear Andrea Ferraris’ film tells the true story of his adoption journey and follows Andrew and Daniela, an American couple desperate to start a family, as they travel to India to bring home their newly adopted child. However, the girl knows nothing about this and is unwilling to leave the orphanage where she lives in India to become their daughter.
Starring Ruhi Pal in the lead role, the film was made in association with Lasutra Pictures, a division of YOYOGOA Communications PVT LTD headed by Laurens Postma (exit, The Interview: Night of November 26th) and Sunitha Ram (The Archies, After the wedding), as well as 3DMC, Ratan Films, Whiskey Stream, Greenmachine Films, 5x Media, Foothill Productions and Steak & Rosè. Producers on the project include Emily Dillard, Darren Dean (The Florida Project, tangerine), Ali K. Rizvi (skin, Human capital), Frank Hall Green (Gonzo girls, Wild) and Stephen Stanley (What lies below, They live in gray). Boniadi and Lacy served as executive producers.
“A MOSQUITO IN THE EAR captures the evolving relationship between a couple and their adopted child,” Rinciari told Deadline. “In this case, the parents know little about the world of their newly adopted daughter and cannot speak her language. This leads to a question I’ve asked myself since moving to the United States as a teenager: How much do you have to understand someone in order to relate to them?”
The film’s producer Dean added: “After producing independent features for almost two decades, I can honestly say that Nico is one of the most promising up-and-coming directors I have ever worked with.” His refreshingly serious approach and his “A MOSQUITO IN THE EAR is a gift for the senses that we can’t wait to share.”
