Jack Osbourne remembers the time he almost died after stepping in a puddle of rat urine.
The Osbournes want to believe The 38-year-old host shared his story on the Tuesday, April 23, episode of The Osbournes Podcast while he and his sister Kelly Osbournetogether with the parents Sharon And Ozzy Osbournediscussed their near-death experiences.
“I got leptospirosis, which is like a crazy viral disease. “Yeah, that sucked,” he said. “I was in a place called Bario in Malaysia doing some filming and we did a jungle track. When I came out of the jungle I got really sick, but it lasted about two weeks.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a person can get leptospirosis if “water or soil contaminated by animal urine (urine) gets into the nose, mouth, eyes, or a break in the skin.” The disease can ” “cause flu-like symptoms that can worsen into Weil syndrome, a life-threatening illness in a small number of people.”
Jack further explained that after leaving Malaysia he showed symptoms of illness during a trip to Finland, adding: “I was literally dying. It wasn’t a fake.”
After being admitted to a university hospital in Helsinki, Jack said he had to be “flown to London” because of the language barrier.
He continued, “At this point, I’ve been about five days into my body properly shutting down, and I’m laying in this bed, I haven’t eaten, my kidneys and my liver are kind of failing, and so am I.” like, ‘Uh, I’m fucking losing it.'”
After six doctors initially failed to make a diagnosis, Jack explained that the head of the NHS’s tropical diseases department was able to correctly diagnose his illness.
“I had Weil’s disease, which is leptospirosis,” Jack continued. “I got it because I have leech bites on the bottom of my feet. I was swimming and bathing in a river and we were climbing rocks and jumping into this jungle river and I stepped in a puddle on this boulder and there was rat piss in it.”
Jack wasn’t the only Osbourne family member to share a harrowing experience from his past. Kelly, 39, also recalled the time she “almost died” after her brother accidentally shot her with a pellet gun while her parents were in New York filming the 1995 film. The Jerky Boys.
“It went straight through my leg and out the other side,” the former said Fashion Police Cohost remembered. “It felt like someone was driving a hot poker through my leg very quickly. I remember it burned a little bit.”
