Italdesign’s Quintessenza Concept Lands in Beijing from a Mystical World

  • The concept is based on a 150 kWh battery and three electric motors.
  • Although it’s only a two-seater, the car has a massive 3,240 mm (127.5 inches) wheelbase.
  • Unfortunately the car will not go into production.

Italdesign has unveiled a compelling new concept called Quintessenza at the Beijing Auto Show. The car was created as the perfect “embodiment of the relationship between man and nature” and draws on more than 50 years of Italdesign heritage.

var adpushup = window.adpushup = window.adpushup || {que:[]}; adpushup.que.push(function() { if (adpushup.config.platform !== “DESKTOP”){ adpushup.triggerAd(“4d84e4c9-9937-4f84-82c0-c94544ee6f2a”); } else{ adpushup.triggerAd(” 6a782b01-facb-45f3-a88f-ddf1b1f97657″); } });

The Quintessenza takes the form of a high-seat two-door car with a spacious cabin for four occupants. A pair of slim LED headlights highlight the front of the concept car and were complemented by a small vertical LED in the center of the instrument panel. The carbon fiber wheel arches protruding from the rest of the body are eye-catching, as are the driving lights integrated into these arches.

Although the study only has two doors, it is as large as a large four-door sedan. It is 5,561 mm (219 in) long, 1,580 mm (62.2 in) high and 2,200 mm (86.6 in) wide. It also has a massive 3,240 mm (127.5 inch) wheelbase, meaning there is room for a spacious cabin.

The fascinating design features continue at the rear of the car. Italdesign designed the Quintessenza with a removable tailgate. The second row of seats can then be rotated 180 degrees backwards, offering plenty of legroom. This isn’t feasible for production, but it helps Italdesign ensure residents are connected to the outside world.

A human-centered approach also drove the design of the concept’s interior. It features a floating marble-based fabric dashboard that houses the air conditioning and infotainment controls. There’s also a yoke steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster and a smartphone app that allows the driver to customize the vehicle’s controls and the driving experience.

According to Italdesign, the concept is based on a lightweight aluminum structure and features a huge 150 kWh battery with an 800 volt electrical architecture. A large electric motor on the front axle and two wheel hub motors on the rear axle together produce 778 hp (580 kW), allowing the car to accelerate to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than 3 seconds. The design house also promises a range of 750 km (466 miles). Because this is a concept, these numbers are never verified.
