Is This $7,400 1991 Chevy Corvette a Super Rare Listing?

Now is a good time to grab C4 Corvettes like today’s one Good price or no dice Convertible. Let’s see if the price of this low-mileage example with seemingly rare color makes it a no-brainer to buy.

You generally can’t go wrong with buying an old Toyota Land Cruiser as they are, on average, pretty solid and reliable trucks. The 1997 Land Cruiser 40th Anniversary Edition The model we looked at last Friday looked particularly good as we avoided the cracked leather and fading paint that is so common in the Land Cruiser range. That wasn’t enough to make the $16,500 asking price seem acceptable, however, as our poll’s winner’s circle was the only place the otherwise capable Land Cruiser couldn’t reach. What succeeded instead was a no-dice loss of 60 percent.

Hey, let’s start the week with a question. Do you think it makes sense to buy a smaller version of a car at a lower price or spend more and get the car you really want?

I ask this because today 1991 Chevy Corvette convertible is not the most desirable Corvette edition – nor is it the worst – there are still better examples available for not much more money than the seller of this car is asking. That being said, this one has a lot to offer those interested in joining the jorts and chunky white sneaker set at the lowest possible price of entry.

Let’s look at the good aspects first. This C4 is a model from 1991 with the later, more modern and, for many, more attractive body. It also features the improved hybrid dashboard with digital display and dials introduced a year earlier. Added to this is the fact that it is a convertible. This can be either a plus or a disadvantage depending on how much hair you have on your head.

Next we come to color. Accordingly Corvette historyIn 1991, only 835 cars were painted Steel Metallic Blue. This includes coupes and convertibles, so the number of exactly these cars is probably less than half. Suffice it to say, you wouldn’t see yourself coming and going in this car. Finally, there is the overall condition of this car. It looks to be in great condition for its age with no major paint, top or cabin issues. It is also claimed to run and drive without any issues.

Now let’s move on to the less attractive parts, starting with the engine. Again, being a ’91 Vette, it has the older L98 5.7L V8. That’s a somewhat disappointing 245 hp and 345 lb-ft of torque. If this car were just a year newer, it would be rocking a 300 horsepower LT1. Adding to all its problems is that the transmission is a plebeian 700R four-speed automatic. We can also lump the soft top in with the other bad news, because for some it’s just a deal killer.

For the rest of us, though, there’s a lot that’s good about this Corvette. The Odo’s reported 89,000 miles are relatively low and the car has a clean title. It also has a nifty luggage rack on the back, which also makes it practical. Then there’s the $7,400 price tag. That’s generally not a lot of money, but is it a reasonable price to pay to acquire a piece of automotive history, albeit one of its smaller chapters?

What do you think? Is this neat looking Vette worth the $7,400 as presented in the ad? Or, deal or no deal, would you wait for a better issue?

You decide!
