Is This $25,900 2006 Audi S4 Quattro a Bonkers Bargain?

Silver is the traditional gift for the 25th anniversary and also today Good price or no dice The 25th anniversary S4 rightly wears Avus Silver paint. One of 250 special edition cars, this example also features a supercharger and upgraded wheels and brakes. Let’s see if it breaks the bank.

I think if that 1986 Volvo 240 station wagon The song that fell under our collective attention yesterday had a theme song, it would probably be Dan Hicks’ 1969 country dirge How can I miss you if you don’t go away?? After all, Volvos of this type have a reputation for toughness and durability. What our Volvo seemed to lack, however, was overall value. At an asking price of $10,500, it proved simply too expensive for our collective tastes, which is undeniable given its 77 percent no-dice loss.

Whether it’s a birthday, an anniversary, or the commemoration of a notable personal achievement, we all tend to mark milestones by complete orbits of the sun. Today 2006 Audi S4 Quattro is a special edition that marks 25 such orbits since the debut of Audi’s legendary Quattro all-wheel drive system, which became a dominant factor for Audi in both rally racing and brand building.

This 25Quattro features almost all of the original parts that characterize the 25th Anniversary package – factory DTM body kit, special two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, special Avus Silver Metallic paint and some carbon fiber trim for good measure. In addition to all of these factory goodies, a ton of aftermarket goodies have been added to this S4.

The most notable of these is the water-air intercooled PES supercharger bolted into the valley of the 4.2-liter DOHC V8. Without the Eaton M90 inflating its adder, the all-metal engine produces 340 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque. We have to assume that if it has been exposed, it will now bring more. Unfortunately, there is no information in the ad about how much this unit earns, nor what other stupidities – larger injectors, ECU tuning, etc. – were done to help the blower serve its purpose. Also, the PES package doesn’t have the best reputation in the industry, so take that with a dash of NaCl.

Other updates include a set of factory-looking Ronal alloys, StopTech front brakes and a built-in K40 radar detector to keep the po-po at bay. Aesthetic updates include a gloss black grille that has sadly lost its Quattro badge, Audi ring door decals and, oddly, painting all four side marker lights in body color. Dufuq?

Aside from these updates, everything looks pretty factory-built and is in great condition. The custom padded Recaro seats appear to show little to no wear. The steering wheel and the special “One of 250” gear knob for the six-speed gearbox also have a similar shape.

Of course, there are plenty of toys in the cabin, including heated seats, automatic this and that and a double DIN stereo with Bose sound and integrated sat-nav. The car reportedly has just 51,374 miles on the clock and a clean title. It is offered by a dealer called Dreamrides based in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

The price for this supposed dream trip is $25,900.

For comparison, that’s about a third of what this car – excluding the blower and other non-factory parts – cost when new. This is also, as the gear knob reminds us, one of just 250 cars Audi built to celebrate the Quattro’s 25th anniversary. It should also be taken into account that while the aftermarket additions make the car more unique, they detract from its original limited edition uniqueness.

With that in mind, what do you think of this S4 25Quattro and its $25,900 asking price? And yes, the dealer should have just priced it at a flat rate of $25,000 to stay on topic, but then not everyone can be as smart as you and me. Regardless, is this offering an even hotter version of an already hot Audi? Or is this an anniversary you’d rather skip?

You decide!
