Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets to register their second win in the ongoing IPL 2024.
Chasing 166, SRH got off to a blistering start Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head shared a 46-run stand off just 16 balls for the first wicket. Sharma did most of the scoring during the stand, hitting four sixes and three fours to reach 37 in just 11 balls before Deepak Chahar dismissed him in the third over, giving CSK a much-needed first breakthrough.
However, it didn’t help the defending champions get back into the game. Head and Aiden Markram continued to bat aggressively and shared a 60-run stand for the second wicket before Maheesh Theekshana dismissed Australia for 31. Markram completed a fifty before he and Shahbaz Ahmed were dismissed by Moeen Ali in quick succession. Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy then shared an unbeaten 25-run stand to take SRH home with 11 balls remaining.
Earlier in the game, CSK ended their innings at 165/5 in the allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first. CSK were 54 for 2 in the eighth over before Shivam Dube’s quickfire gave the innings much-needed momentum. The southpaw scored 45 off just 24 balls before being dismissed by Pat Cummins in the 14th over.
After his dismissal, CSK’s innings lost momentum again. The reigning champions managed just 45 runs in the last six overs to reach 165, despite scoring more than 500 runs a few days ago.
