Although Russell took advantage of an overthrow for an extra run, much to KKR’s dismay, the on-field umpires deemed the over over and denied them the extra run.

This controversial decision triggered a heated exchange with Gambhir and KKR captain Shreyas Iyer, involved in a heated argument with the fourth referee. Gambhir’s frustration was palpable as he passionately contested the decision, reminiscent of a similar incident in KKR’s previous clash against KKR Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)which also involved him in a dispute over a referee’s call.

Nevertheless, despite the controversy, PBKS emerged as the winner on the back of a sensational batting spectacle.
