IPL 2024 Points Table: Updated After Match Numbers 53 and 54 of PBKS vs CSK and LSG vs KKR

What an intense game day it was! Throughout the day, fans enjoyed two blockbusters. The first match of the day saw an exciting clash between the Punjab Kings and the Chennai Super Kings. In the second game, Lucknow Super Giants took on Kolkata Knight Riders. As both games were intense, the results brought big changes in the points table.

Chennai’s dominance and Punjab’s struggle:

The Dharamsala clash between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League was a fierce battle. Chennai’s innings opted to bat first and revolved around captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell after Ajiyanka Rahane was dismissed early. Ravindra Jadeja’s impressive performance of 43 runs off 26 balls further boosted their total to 167/9 in 20 overs. In response, the Punjab Kings produced brilliant bowling performances from Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar, who took three wickets each to restrict Chennai’s innings to 167 runs.

In pursuit of the target, the Punjab Kings struggled with their batting form as Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw departed early. Despite the efforts of Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh, their batting order faltered under Chennai’s relentless bowling attack. Ravindra Jadeja and Simarjeet Singh led Chennai’s dominance and grabbed crucial wickets to secure a convincing 28-run win over the Punjab Kings.

Kolkata’s dominant win over Lucknow:

In the second match between Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders, Lucknow chose to bowl first after winning the toss. Despite an early breakthrough from Naveen ul Haq that dismissed Phil Salt, Lucknow struggled to control Kolkata’s batting line-up. While the Afghan bowlers performed admirably, with one taking three wickets and others bringing in one each, they were unable to dent Kolkata’s score, reaching a respectable total of 235 runs.

Kolkata’s dominance continued in the bowling innings as they suppressed Lucknow’s batting order. Varun Chakravarthy and Harshit Rana caused havoc, taking three wickets each, while Andre Russell added two more crucial scalps. Thanks to contributions from Mitchell Starc and Sunil Narine, Kolkata restricted Lucknow to just 98 runs to secure a comfortable win by a comfortable margin.

Changes in the points table:

These two blockbuster games brought some notable changes in the points table. After defeating the Punjab Kings, the Chennai Super Kings climbed to the third position in the points table. On the other hand, after a heavy defeat against KKR, LSG slipped to fifth place in the points table and Kolkata became the new league leaders.
