IPL 2024: Hardik Pandya Slapped with a Hefty Fine of Rs 24 Lakh After Loss to LSG: Here’s Why

Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians suffered another defeat in the ongoing IPL 2024 as Lucknow Super Giants defeated them by four wickets on Tuesday (April 30).

The defeat was MI’s seventh defeat of the season in ten games and their chances of making the playoffs are now extremely bleak even if they win their remaining four league games. They are currently placed ninth in the IPL 2024 points table with just three wins and seven losses.

Match report in brief:

Asked to bat first, the five-time champions got off to a disastrous start as they lost four wickets for just 27 runs in the powerplay. Players like Rohit Sharma (4), Suryakumar Yadav (10), Tilak Varma (7) and Hardik Pandya (0) failed to get going with the bat.

The likes of Ishan Kishan (32), Nehal Wadhera (46) and Tim David (35*) then helped the Mumbai-based team to a respectable, if modest, total of 144 for 7 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, LSG chased down the total in 19.2 overs.

After Marcus Stoinis’ 62-run win laid the foundation for the fightback, LSG sputtered towards the end, but Nicholas Pooran held firm at one end and took his team home confidently in the end.

Hardik Pandya fined heavily:

After the defeat, Hardik Pandya was also heavily fined for his team’s slow excessive offenses. In a statement, the IPL confirmed that the MI captain was fined a whopping Rs 24 lakh for his team’s failure to complete the overs in the allotted time. This is the second time that Hardik Pandya has been fined for slow over in the ongoing IPL 2024.

Earlier this season, he was fined Rs 12 lakh for his team’s slow and excessive offense against the Punjab Kings. Apart from the captain, the other players in the team, including the batting player, were also fined. Each player was fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their individual match fees, whichever is less.

“Mr Hardik Pandya, captain of Mumbai Indians, has been fined after his team recorded a slow over in the 48th match of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium had. Lucknow on April 30, 2024,” read the IPL instruction.

“As it was his team’s second offense of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct regarding minimum overage violations, Pandya was fined INR 24 Lac. The remaining members of the playing eleven, including the batting player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is less.” it added.

MI will next be in action on Friday (May 3) when they take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.
