Angry! Roommate, Iman Shumpert had Teyana Taylor’s fans in defense on Monday (May 6). The former NBA player caused a stir after publicly complimenting his estranged wife on her Met Gala slaying.

Shortly after celebrities graced the red carpet, Iman took to X (formerly Twitter) with indirect praise. He wrote, “Yes, you ate… but I won’t tell you [crying face emoticon.]”
For context: Teyana STEPPED with an archive look from The Blonds NY. Taylor wore her hair half-up, half-down platinum blonde, while her body was wrapped in a ruby red minidress with a long train. The bodice dress was covered in flowers, which seemed like a sweet nod to her song “Rose In Harlem.” Note that she has been attending the Met alone since 2021.
What else did Iman apparently say about Teyana at the Met Gala?
Although he didn’t mention Teyana by name, fans quickly assumed he was talking about her. In his replies to several X posts he seems to have confirmed this. After someone replied to his post with “Keep it 100,” he replied: “Lol, it was a cute way of saying she mastered the kilt. But people don’t laugh enough in life [angel emoticon].”

Meanwhile, her ongoing court cases haven’t been so pretty
His compliment was a bright spot in the midst of their twisted shared personalities. Over the past few months, Iman and Teyana have slowly lost their “Black Love Goals” aura as the media continues to cover their divorce.
Teyana first confirmed their split in September 2023 and denied reports that her “bestie” had been unfaithful in the marriage. The breakup seemed amicable, but everything changed in November. At this point, her divorce petition became public. In it, Teyana accused Iman of treating her “cruel and [displayed] extreme narcissistic behavior throughout most of their marriage.” Both later released statements requesting privacy.
But their divorce updates continue to dominate headlines – from claims that Iman turned off the power at home to his allegedly negligent child care.
In March, her attorney issued a statement clarifying a divorce petition filed in March that accused Shumpert of sleeping over with another woman while caring for her daughters.
Her lawyer told The Shade Room that Teyana “She’s not worried about who her ex is dating.” Her concern was “the safety of their children, being aware of who is around them and what they are exposed to, and ensuring that neither party acts irresponsibly or recklessly.”
