ICC Announces Women’s T20I Team of the Year, with Harmanpreet Kaur Taking Charge

The International Cricket Council has announced the Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2018. India’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the ICC Team of the Year. Meanwhile, India’s southpaw batswoman Smriti Mandhana will open the innings with Australian wicketkeeper Alyssa Healy.

Smriti Mandhana scored 622 runs in 23 innings in 2018 at an average of 28.27 and a strike rate of 130.67. She also scored five fifties in the calendar year. Australia’s Alyssa Healy scored 578 runs in just 16 innings at a good average of 41.28.

It’s a strong team.

New Zealand captain Suzie Bates is the one-down batswoman in the ICC team. The talisman batter is the leading run-getter of the year with 670 runs in 16 innings and a staggering average of 51.53. Bates had scored five fifties and a hundred in the calendar year.

India’s T20I captain Harmanpreet Kaur will hold the captaincy for the ICC Team of the Year in T20I form. Kaur is the second highest run-getter of the year with 663 runs in 22 innings at a good average of 41.43. Kaur scored two fifties and a century this year.

Natalie Sciver makes the ICC Team of the Year. Sciver scored 406 runs in 15 innings at an average of 40.60. She went on to score four fifties. The best all-rounder in the game, Ellyse Perry, secures her place in the team. Perry scalped 20 wickets in 17 matches. Australia’s Ashleigh Gardener occupies a place in the team having scalped 20 wickets this year.

New Zealand bowler Leigh Kasperek is the second New Zealand player in the ICC team. Kasperek had taken 27 wickets in 15 matches. Megan Schutt finds a place in the team after taking 28 wickets in 17 games. Bangladesh’s Rumana Ahmed is her country’s only player as he took 30 wickets in 24 matches. Indian spinner Poonam Yadav, who is the leading wicket-taker of the year with 35 wickets in 25 matches, is the third Indian player in the team.
