Hyundai Elantra N Runs from the Police Directly Into a Construction Site

  • An Arkansas State Patrol car pursued a Hyundai Elantra N into an active construction zone where the driver gave up.
  • The performance-oriented limo driver had reportedly escaped from a previous chase.
  • He is now facing several serious charges.

When police chase suspects in cars, they never know where the pursuit will take them. In this case, it ended up between two active lanes. A driver of a Hyundai Elantra N made the mistake of not only fleeing from police, but also running into an active construction site from which there was no way out.

He is now facing charges from two different departments, including aggravated assault, reckless driving and fleeing.

The unnamed driver, who Arkansas officials say is from Maryland, reportedly escaped a pursuit initiated by the Saline County Sheriff’s Office. Shortly thereafter, an Arkansas State Trooper noticed a similar car traveling at a high rate of speed and approached the car to conduct further investigation. Within a few seconds, the Elantra N begins to switch between lanes and then pulls onto a very short shoulder to pass cars, the dashcam shows.

At that moment, the officer turns on his lights and sirens, but progress is slow. The stretch of road the two cars are on is in the middle of a large construction site and there is almost no shoulder at all. As a result, it takes a while for cars to try to avoid the officer’s vehicle. Once he catches up, the chase vacillates, with the Elantra N repeatedly gaining and then losing space due to traffic.

Finally, the Hyundai driver dives into a closed section of road where construction work is currently taking place. Here he gains significant ground, while the ASP soldier has difficulty keeping up. However, both are ultimately slowed down by workers in heavy machinery. At this stage, the fleeing suspect begins kicking up dirt, slowing the officer down. What he doesn’t realize is that he’s driving into a dead end.

The road slopes down on the right side of the construction site and heavy concrete barriers restrict him from driving to the left. The smartest move he makes is to stop and get out while he waits for the officer. According to the video description, authorities took him to the Saline County Jail.

He is facing felony fleeing and reckless driving charges from both the ASP and the County Sheriff’s Office. The ASP also charged him with grievous bodily harm, negligent/prohibited driving, failure to present insurance, improper lane changing, improper overtaking on the right, speeding and fictitious markings.
