Mark Chapman received his first contract with New Zealand Cricket Central. The Auckland Aces batsman will fill the vacancy left by Martin Guptill, who was released from his contract in November. Chapman’s rise comes on the back of some strong performances from his country over the last two years.
Chapman has featured in the last two ICC T20 World Cup squads and has played in 27 matches for the Blackcaps (22 T20Is and 5 ODIs) since making his debut in 2018. Born in Hong Kong, Chapman graduated from Kings College High School and earned 21 caps for his native country before going on to play 128 games for his native country Auckland in the domestic circuit.

He’s a guy with a lot of talent – Gary Stead
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead welcomed the move and said he was pleased Chapman’s hard work was being rewarded with the contract. Stead said he was looking forward to seeing him in the Blackcaps squad in the coming years.
“We are pleased to have Mark on the central contract list after being there or close to it for a while. He is a good player and we like the versatility and innovation he brings to his batting technique. He is a guy with a lot of talent and we see that he will be an important part of the future BLACKCAPS squads.” Stead said.
Kane Williamson and Gary Stead will not tour India for the ODI series in January. New Zealand Cricket has confirmed that Tom Latham will lead the ODI squad in India. Mark Chapman and Jacob Duffy will replace Williamson and Tim Southee in the squad, while Luke Ronchi will take over as head coach in Stead’s absence.
