Spring is just around the corner and, believe it or not, so are iPads. Apple is hosting a live event tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET to unveil new entries in its tablet lineup. The keynote entitled “Let Loose” can be followed live in various ways. We’re publishing the following so you can watch it right here, but the event is also available on and in the Apple TV+ app.
So what is the company? Tablets as far as the eye can see. Apple is keeping quiet about which iPads will get an update, but rumors and reports point to a new OLED iPad Pro and an updated iPad Air.
The alleged iPad Pro may even forego the M3 chipset Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman hinted that there is a “strong possibility” that the tablet could feature the next-generation M4. He also noted that Apple will be relying heavily on new AI branding on the iPad Pro, calling it the company’s “first truly AI-powered device.”
Aside from potentially having AI on board to answer questions safely but incorrectly, this is… That means a gorgeous display that should bring bolder colors and deeper blacks to the line. OLED panels are also thinner than LCD panels, so it could be a slim device. There are also rumors that the iPad Pro will have a glass back.
It’s been a full two years since the iPad Air was updated, which is an eternity in technical years. The updated iPad Air likely won’t have a fancy next-generation chipset or an OLED display. However, it could boast an upgrade to the M2 chip. The current models still carry the antiquated M1. The iPad Air’s front camera is also reportedly moving to the edge in landscape mode.
It’s also possible that the tablet consumed a lot of creatine, as Apple is rumored to be preparing the first 12.9-inch iPad Air. This would make it the most affordable option for a large-screen iPad tablet.
The event won’t be just for iPads. It will also be intended for iPad accessories. To this end, Apple is expected to unveil a redesigned Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro range, which could be made of aluminum. Additionally, Apple is expected to unveil a new Apple Pencil to replace the second-generation model. Some reports even suggest that the next Apple Pencil could work with other devices in addition to tablet apps.
