In September, Apple launched its latest line of smartwatches, introducing the Apple Watch Ultra 2 ($799) alongside the Apple Watch Series 9 ($399). Each wearable has its own pros and cons, as does the second-generation Apple Watch SE ($249), but the arrival of the new wearables also means that there are now more Apple Watch models on the market than ever before – and many more offers to be cheated.

But with all these options, which one should you choose? In general, you want to buy the latest watch you can afford so that it continues to receive software updates from Apple. The latest update, watchOS 10, was released in September for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models. However, no one can say for sure whether the Series 4 will receive the next major software update or whether it will be exclusive to newer watches.

The Apple Watch SE received an update at the end of 2022. It has the same chipset as the Series 8, which is great, but with fewer sensors, no always-on display, and a slightly dated design compared to the Series 8 and Series 9. These omissions could be the deal breaker for some people racing, but it could still be exactly what you’re looking for. The best part is that the 40mm Wi-Fi/GPS model starts at $249, which is $30 less than the previous generation’s base cost. If you choose cellular connectivity, the starting price increases up to $299 for the 40mm size (at 44mm, each configuration costs $20 more).

The best deals on the latest Apple Watch SE are currently at Amazon, Walmart, and Target, where you can pick up the 40mm model with GPS in select styles starting at $189 ($60 off). The 44mm configuration is now available in select styles at Walmart starting at $209 ($70 off) or for just $219 ($60 off) at Amazon and Target.

Apple’s latest Apple Watch Ultra launched in September for $799 and features GPS and LTE support, similar to the original model. The ultra-capable smartwatch has the most features, sensors and robustness of any Apple Watch model available to date, as well as a display that is 50 percent brighter than the first Ultra. The 49mm smartwatch also features Apple’s new S9 SiP and second-generation ultra-wideband chips, just like the Apple Watch Series 9, while offering long battery life, precise GPS tracking and a variety of dive-friendly sensors.

We recently saw the Apple Watch Ultra 2 drop to $714 in select configurations; However, it’s currently only available on Amazon with a Trail Loop tier price starting at $737.99 ($61 off). While all of the Apple Watch models and color variants covered here are clad in aluminum (except the Ultra 2, which has a titanium construction), Apple also makes a premium range in stainless steel and titanium. These offerings are functionally and aesthetically similar to their aluminum counterparts, with slightly refined colors and finishes – polished for the stainless steel and brushed for the titanium. However, they start at much higher prices of $749 and up. They can also often be found on special offer, but there is never a discount as low as on the standard base models, which is why we don’t include them here.
