Hamas Releases Video of Two Israeli Prisoners Held in Gaza

The two men, Keith Siegel and Omri Miran, greet their families and ask for their release in the video.

Hamas’ military wing has released a video of two Israeli prisoners held in Gaza. It shows footage of them calling on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government to strike a deal to secure their release.

The video released Saturday is filmed similarly to previous videos released by the group, which Israel has condemned as “psychological terrorism.”

The two men, Keith Siegel, 64, and Omri Miran, 47, speak individually in front of an empty background. They greet their families and ask for their release.

Miran was captured in front of his wife and two young daughters at his home in Nahal Oz township during the Hamas attack on October 7.

“I have been in Hamas captivity here for 202 days. “The situation here is unpleasant, difficult and there are a lot of bombs,” Miran is heard saying in the footage, suggesting it was recorded earlier this week.

“It’s time to reach an agreement that gets us out of here safe and sound… Keep protesting so there is an agreement now.”

Saturday’s video comes as Hamas says it is examining Israel’s latest counter-proposal for a Gaza ceasefire after reports that mediator Egypt had sent a delegation to Israel to restart stalled negotiations bring to.

The video was released during the Passover holiday, when Jews traditionally celebrate the biblical story of freedom from slavery in Egypt.

At one point, Siegel stops crying as he recounts how he celebrated the holidays with his family last year and expresses his hope that they will be reunited.

“We’re in danger here, there are bombs, it’s stressful and scary,” he said, burying his face in his arms as he cried.

“I want to tell my family that I love you very much. It’s important to me that you know I’m okay.”

The latest video comes just three days after Hamas released another video showing captured Hersh Goldberg-Polin alive.

About 250 Israelis and foreigners were captured during the Hamas attack, which Israel said killed 1,139 people.

In response, Israel launched an attack on Gaza, promising to destroy Hamas and bring the prisoners home. The war has so far killed at least 34,388 Palestinians.

According to the Israeli military, 129 of the prisoners are still being held in Gaza, including the bodies of 34 people who died in captivity.

Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith, reporting from Tel Aviv, said the prisoners’ families and friends were relieved to see evidence that they were alive.

“They said: ‘Time is running out’. We need our Prime Minister [Benjamin Natanyahu] “To accept any deal quickly,” he said.

Smith spoke of a protest against Netanyahu.

“These protests demand the resignation of Prime Minister Netanyahu. They are demanding an end to the war and the release of hostages,” he said.

“Many of the protesters here say that Netanyahu is deliberately prolonging this war in Gaza because it will save him from the final reckoning at the ballot box.”
