Gypsy is currently promoting her upcoming eight-part docuseries for Lifetime, premiering in June.

“I think I’m most excited for fans and people to see me grow as an individual,” she said of the project. “I’ve only learned something about myself in the last four months. was a gypsy released from prison in Decembereight years after she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

With Life after the lockupGypsy hopes to clarify the public’s perception of her.

“I think the biggest misconception is that I’m a master manipulator,” she told ET. “I think, yes, I’ve made some bad decisions in the past, but I don’t think that marks me as an individual. I think that everyone should have a second chance and grow into a new person, and I feel like I should be given that grace too.

Since her release, Gypsy has been the subject of near-constant headlines as she shares her life on social media. Gypsy addressed critics of her newfound fame, saying she “didn’t choose” to be famous.

“It was put on me when I was arrested,” she said. “Before my face even fell into an interview camera, people were invested in my life and my story. And so it was out of my control. I think what I’ve done is basically share my story in my own voice and, I mean, I’d rather bring the truth to light than speculate about my life and it’s wrong. So I don’t think it’s wrong to want to clarify the matter.

Still, she added, she doesn’t exactly “enjoy” all the attention.

“I would say ‘accept,'” she said of her place in the spotlight.

Gypsy said she recently watched the first 30 minutes of the 2019 Hulu drama series about her story. The actin which she and her mother were portrayed Joey King and Patricia Arquette, respectively.

“It’s a little emotionally draining,” she said, explaining why she hadn’t seen the entire series. “But I have to say, Joey King did a great job playing me and I think that’s a brave woman who took on the role that I am.”
