Gill lost his seventh game in this ongoing IPL season and only a miracle can help Gujarat Titans (GT) qualify for the playoffs.
Gill is clearly facing challenges in his new role as captain of the Gujarat Titans (GT), but his experienced teammate David Miller showed support for his young captain. GT have had great success in the last two seasons as they were crowned champions in 2022 and finished second last year under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.
But the Titans are currently at the ninth spot in the IPL 2024 points table with just 8 points from 11 games in the tournament so far. However, Miller believes Gill is gradually getting used to the responsibility of captaincy and that experience will make him a good leader.

The Proteas star’s comments came after GT suffered an embarrassing four-wicket defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 52nd match of the ongoing IPL 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 4 . RCB jumped to 7th in the standings, while GT slipped to 9thTh Place in the points table.
David Miller said at the post-match press conference: “Shubman is an exceptional player, as we all know. He’s still young and still has a lot to learn, but I feel like his leadership has been really, really good. I feel like he’s adapting really well to captaincy. I think it’s also a difficult question because the margins are so small. There are certain games that we probably should have won but ended up losing. We would have been in a better position if we had won this one.”
GT conceded 92 runs during the Power Play phase of the IPL 2024 clash against RCB while defending a modest total of 148 runs in Bengaluru and Miller said that proved to be a crucial factor that tipped the momentum of the game significantly in their favour the home team relocated during the game.

He added, “We lost the game on the power play. We had a few wickets less while batting and conceded 90 runs while bowling. So it was hard. You won’t win that many games.”
Miller spoke about the positive aspects of the RCB vs GT game and highlighted the team’s resilience and fighting spirit. He praised GT’s ability to bounce back despite RCB’s strong performance in the powerplay. However, Miller acknowledged that the team’s length needs to be improved.
In the end, Miller said that veteran pacer Mohammad Shami has been exceptional in the powerplay for GT in the past few seasons, so the team is missing the best bowler in the powerplay this season. He also highlighted Shami’s ability to take wickets and keep the economy rate low in the powerplay.
