Galveston, TX returns fire afterward Charles Barkley took a shot of their “dirty” beaches on national television… and the city clapped back, saying that millions of people come for their “beautiful coastline.”
ICYMI, the NBA legend roasted the city nicknamed the “Queen City of the Gulf,” located about 50 miles southeast of Houston … after the New Orleans Pelicans’ disappointing 106-85 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday.

“They didn’t even try, man,” Barkley said on the NBA broadcast on TNT. “We won’t give them a plane ticket to the beach.”
That’s when Barkley said the lackluster performance didn’t justify a trip to a beautiful beach in Mexico… and he had another destination in mind.
“We’re sending them to Galveston, Texas, right where the dirty water washed up on the beach. They don’t even get into the water. This dirty ass water. We won’t even send them to Cancun.”
We called Galveston after Chuck’s comments went viral … and the city sees home a little differently than the Hall of Famer.

“While Galveston may not be the right place for Chuck, we would be more than happy to host the New Orleans Pelicans and share our sun-kissed beaches, luxurious four-diamond resorts, exclusive spas, million-dollar, world-class beach homes. “Attractions and exceptional Gulf seafood,” Kimberly Danesi, CEO and spokesperson for Visit Galveston, told us.
“We are proud of our beautiful coastline, which is hand-cleaned 365 days a year by our coastal zone management team and kept safe by our internationally recognized lifeguards.”
If the team is interested, the Pelicans have time to visit…they were defeated by OKC on Monday. 4 up, 4 down, season over.

City bosses weren’t the only ones reacting to Barkley’s comments… Beyonce Knowles‘ Mummy, Tinaborn and raised in Galveston, also had a message for Barkley.
“Chuck, we’re not playing about Galveston Texas!” Tina said on Instagram. “You better watch out, you idiot! 😂😂Our water may not be blue, but it’s still the beach and we love it!”
As the saying goes… “Don’t mess with Texas!”
