Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: Go Behind the Scenes with the Stars!

Get ready for a journey back into the wasteland of filmmaker George Miller’s wild imagination.

In Furiosa: A Mad Max SagaFans will see how the mighty Furiosa became the warrior icon and fans of the apocalyptic legend saw in it Mad Mad: Fury Road, and ET offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the highly anticipated blockbuster.

Anya Taylor Joy plays a young Furiosa in the action-packed sequel (during Charlize Theron embodied the character as a full-blown road warrior in the 2015 epic). In the meantime, Chris Hemsworth plays the grey-haired warlord Dementus, who kidnaps Furiosa from her home – known as the Green Place of Many Mothers.

“This film goes so far beyond the word ‘epic’ that I can’t even think of a word for it,” Taylor-Joy says of the post-apocalyptic thrill. “[It’s] Epic in scale, epic in ambition, epic in emotion, epic in action! It’s just huge.”

“I saw things in it that I’ve never seen on a set before,” teased Hemsworth – who has starred in some of the biggest and most expensive action films of the last decade. “So buckle up!”

The film follows Furiosa as she attempts to survive and escape the control of Dementus as he faces off against the fearsome warlord Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme).

Both Hemsworth and Taylor-Joy had to put in a lot of work to get into their roles – both mentally and physically.

For Hemsworth, The role required a prosthetic nose — which meant he needed more time for hair and makeup than he was normally used to — but he also had to change the way he trained. The actor began lifting lighter weights because he didn’t want his character to be as toned as Hemsworth was when he played Thor.

He also had to perfect his voice, explaining: “I was listening to the horse races and the ‘Ah, they’re coming down the track and going outside!'” And there was something about that kind of nasality – it just felt like it was someone tense and tense.”

For Taylor-Joy, the role of Furiosa had much more physicality than in many of her previous projects.

“I really loved the physical nature of the job,” she explained. “So I started training a year before filming started.”

An aspect of playing Furiosa – and a core part of most Crazy Max Films – involve fast-paced action and chases, which proved more difficult for Taylor-Joy as she didn’t even have a driver’s license when filming began.

“The Valiant was the first car I drove in the film,” Taylor-Joy said of one of several vehicles she drives throughout the film. “It has a very special place in my heart.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15th and will be in theaters on May 24th.
