FRANKLY Speaking (May 1st)

What happens when words come out of your mouth completely unfiltered? Well, we will soon find out in the upcoming K-drama Frankly Speaking. Go Kyung Pyo plays Song Ki Baek, a news anchor who begins telling the unfiltered truth after an accident. Kang Ha Na plays On Woo Joo, a reality TV writer who targets Ki Baek to get him on a reality TV show. What happens when their paths cross? We find out in Frankly Speaking, which premieres on Netflix on May 1st.

ATYPICAL FAMILY (May 4)

Jang Ki Yong has returned from military service and is back with a fresh new fantasy K-drama titled “Atypical Family.” Jang Ki Young plays Bok Gwi Joo, a man whose family is blessed with superpowers. Opposite him is Chun Woo Hee as Do Da Hee, a girl from an ordinary family. Gwi Joo can travel back in time, but only when he is happy. He begins to lose his strength as he falls into depression. But his life changes when he meets Da Hee. Atypical Family is set to premiere on Netflix on May 4th.

THE MIDNIGHT ROMANCE IN HAGWON (May 11)

There’s a new Noona romance in town! Wi Ha Joon, who we loved in Squid Games and The Worst of Evil, is back in a breezy new love story in Midnight Romance at Hagwon. He plays Lee Joon Ho, who joins his alumni academy. There he meets his Korean teacher Son Hye Jin again. Jung Ryeo Won plays Son Hye Jin. Joon Ho has had a crush on Hye Jin since she helped him all those years ago. He plans to confess his feelings, but who knows what will happen next! “The Midnight Romance at Hagwon” is scheduled to premiere on May 11th.

Dare to Love Me (May 13)

“Dare to Love Me” brings Lee Myung Soo back to the big screen. He plays Shin Yoon Bok, a scholar who follows his family’s traditions. He lives in a village that recreates the Joseon era, but wants to become a web novelist. He moves to Seoul to pursue his dream and meets Kim Hong-do (played by Lee Yoo Young). Hong Do works diligently and tirelessly at a clothing company, but never receives recognition for her work. When these two people’s paths cross, romance ensues. “Dare to Love Me” premieres May 13th.

CRASH (May 13)

Lee Min Ki is back in a quirky new drama “Crash.” He plays Cha Yeon Ho, a KAIST graduate, and Kwak Sun Young plays Min So Hee, a traffic investigator. The two work in the Traffic Crime Investigation Team and investigate traffic offenses. The drama also focuses on the relationship between the officers within the department, adding a comical aspect to the story. Crash is expected to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on May 13.

UNCLE SAMSIK (May 15)

Song Kang Ho finally graces the screen with a fresh and intriguing K-drama called Uncle Samsik. The story of Uncle Samsik is set in 1960s Korea, where Kang Ho plays Samsik, a fixer who teams up with Kim San (played by Byun Yo Han). Kim San is striving for reform in his country. Even Samsik is not without a shade of gray! Uncle Samsik will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on May 15.

THE 8 SHOW (May 17)

Korean reality shows are becoming increasingly popular. There’s a new reality TV show in town called The 8 Show. Eight participants stay in a studio room for 100 days. If they survive the 100 days, they win prize money, which is divided equally. You can buy things to survive, but the things are very expensive and the cost is deducted from the prize money. How the participants see through the 100 days is the crux of this reality TV show. “The 8 Show” is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on May 17th. Ryu Jun Yeol and Chun Won Hee star in this TV show.

CONNECTION (May 24)

Ji Sung is back! The actor we loved in shows like The Devil Judge is back in the thrilling crime drama Connection. He plays Jang Jae Kyoung, a drug detective who refuses to make a personal connection. He is turned into a drug addict by a mysterious person and begins to uncover the truth. Jeon Mi Do plays Oh Yoon Jin, a reporter who was falsely accused and fired from her previous job. She is committed to fighting corruption and soon meets Jae Kyung. Connection premieres on May 24th.

BITTER SWEET HELL (May 24)

There’s a new mother-in-law and daughter-in-law movie pairing in town with the K-drama “Bitter Sweet Hell.” Kim Hee Sun plays No Young Won, a famous psychologist. She has a healthy marriage with her husband Jae Jin, who is also a doctor. But her relationship with her mother-in-law and crime writer Hong Sa Gang (played by Lee Hye Young) is quite shaky. But after a fateful incident, she and Sa-gang must come together to solve their problems. Bitter Sweet Hell is scheduled to premiere on May 24th.

BONUS: Two more dramas are scheduled to premiere in May 2024, namely “Not Very Powerful, But Attraction” starring Kim Dong Wook and Park Ji Wan. The drama follows the journey of a team of lowest-ranking detectives. Another drama is “Dreaming of Cinde F*****g rella” starring Lee Jun Young as Moon Cha Min, an arrogant club manager with no trace of romance, and Pyo Ye Jin as Shin Jae Rin, who lives in a rosy world .
