It’s been a great run, but after four years, the series of free Paramount+ codes has come to an end.
For those in the know, getting Paramount+ for free was easy through a seemingly endless supply of coupon codes that allowed both new and returning subscribers to sign up in month-long increments. These codes have been available since at least early 2020, when the service was still called CBS All Access.
All that changed earlier this month when the last known Paramount+ promo code (LODGE24) stopped working and no replacement was available. I’ve looked for new codes through various sources, so far without success.
While I can’t say for sure that Paramount+ won’t release more codes in the future, the drought has lasted long enough that other options are worth considering. Instead of getting Paramount+ completely free, here are some alternatives:
Use your free trial options
Paramount+ continues to offer new customers a one-week trial, which may be enough to watch a specific show or sporting event.
Once you’ve used up your free week, you can sign up for premium subscriptions through third-party subscription marketplaces like Amazon Prime Video Channels, Apple TV Channels, and Roku Channel. Each of these subscriptions comes with its own seven-day trial. (Just make sure you cancel immediately after signing up to avoid being automatically billed when your trial ends.)
Free Paramount+ (with ads) at Walmart+
For $98 a year, Walmart’s free shipping and grocery delivery service also includes free access to the ad-supported version of Paramount+. While this wasn’t a big deal in the age of free Paramount+ codes – which even worked with Showtime’s ad-free plan – it might be worth considering now.
Note that new Walmart+ subscribers can get 30 days free, which amounts to a sort of backdoor one-month membership to Paramount+. This could be useful if you just want to watch a series or two. (American Express Platinum cardholders can get Walmart+ free all year long, but the card itself has a $695 annual fee.)
Up to three months of Paramount+ with Amex
Through Doctor of Credit, American Express cardholders can receive up to three statement credits valued at $11.99 each when they spend $11.99 on Paramount’s Premium plan with Showtime. This effectively gives you three months free. Maybe the free codes will be available again by the end of these few months.
To confirm, log in to the Amex Offers website and note that the promotional period ends on August 3rd. (You must also cancel service after the promotional period to avoid automatic billing.)
25% off Paramount+ for students and military
The Paramount+ military discount gives you 25 percent off the Essentials plan or the Premium plan with Showtime. This brings the price to $4.50 per month or $45 per year with advertising, or $9 per month or $90 per year without. The discount is valid indefinitely after you verify your status with SheerID.
The Paramount+ student discount isn’t as generous since it only applies to the monthly Essentials plan with advertising, but it’s still valid for four years after your status is verified.
Get 10% off with code AARP
You don’t have to be retired to cut the cost of Paramount+ a little. Just use the code AARP At checkout, you’ll receive a 10 percent discount on all plans, including annual subscriptions. It’s not a bargain, but it’s better than nothing.
Look for comeback offers
As always, canceling your subscriptions is a great way to secure seasonal specials and comeback offers. Since Paramount+ stopped offering free codes for everyone, I’ve heard from some readers who received individual codes for a free month via email after previously canceling their subscriptions. Paramount+ also sometimes offers “wait, don’t go” deals after you click the “cancel” button on the site.
Practice patience
I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of new Paramount+ codes – or at least seasonal offers – in the future. My longstanding motto is that cutting cords benefits the patient; So if you don’t feel like watching anything on Paramount+ right now, you may want to wait. I’ve been sending out Paramount+ codes regularly in my Cord Cutter Weekly newsletter and will continue to do so if they pop up again in the future.
