  • Ford customers are embracing electrification as the company sets a new monthly record for hybrid sales.
  • Electric vehicle sales rose 129% thanks to strong demand for the Mustang Mach-E.
  • ICE-powered crossovers were the big losers, as the Bronco Sport, Escape and Edge all posted big declines.

Ford sales fell 2.4% to 179,588 units last month, but the automaker is seeing a silver lining as it sold 17,997 hybrid vehicles in April. That’s 59.5% more than a year ago and a new monthly record.

On the other hand, electric vehicle sales increased by 129.2% year-on-year. This was supported by a 204.7% increase in Mustang Mach-E sales as the company sold 4,893 electric crossovers in April. The F-150 Lightning rose 56.6% to 2,090 units, while the E-Transit led the way with sales up 85.7%.

At Lincoln, sales rose 24.2% to 8,297 units. Consumers seem to like the new Nautilus as sales increased 15.8% compared to last year. The Corsair gained 162.6%, while the Navigator lagged by just over 20%. However, help is on the way as the company is working on a hybrid Navigator as well as a similar Ford Expedition.
