Dear Food52 community,
I was just in Portland, Oregon, where the sun decided to make an appearance, and in Denver, where it snowed in late April. Now back in Brooklyn with its cherry blossoms and trash.

What do you take with you on the plane? Tell me below [email protected] and I’ll be featuring a number of people’s favorite travel essentials in an upcoming newsletter.
Stopover at the school building
While I was in Portland, I got a first look at the fall (2024) and spring (2025!) products we’ll be launching at Schoolhouse. Here are a few I have crushes on:
While I’m waiting for that, I ordered these sheets in chamomile! I decided to break free of my monopoly on white sheets.

Denver food
The highlight:
Corsica Wine Bar, a new restaurant in RiNo, where we ate mussels in saffron-crab broth; Barbajuan (crispy ravioli filled with ricotta and vegetables); and blood orange granita with cacao nibs. (Full disclosure, I am on the board of this company.)
Home cooking in Denver
The Food52 recipes I cooked with my sister Rhonda at her house:
Rhonda’s spaghetti with fried eggs and pangrattato. (We doubled it and added kale and arugula.)
We took a cue from this blood orange salad and made a citrus salad with grapefruit, tangerine and blood orange with pistachios, avocado, ground chili, olive oil and salt.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies. (We made them without black cocoa and they turned out just fine!)
Founder’s favorites
New favorite beer from N/A
Best Day Brewing Kölsch (This also received unanimous approval in our NA Beer Taste test.)
New favorite potato chip
Bonilla a la Vista Patatas Fritas (Yes, they are insanely expensive, but you get a reusable container.)
The dishes I use at home
Sarah Kersten dishes (Luckily we just started wearing Sarah’s plates again!)
Back in Brooklyn
My husband Tad always puts flowers on my desk and bed when I come home from a trip.
I hope you all have a week that is as eager and promising as these tulips!

Before starting Food52 with Merrill, I was a food writer and editor at The New York Times. I have written several books, including Cooking for Mr. Latte and The Essential New York Times Cookbook. I played myself in “Julie & Julia” – I hope you didn’t bat an eyelid or you might have missed the scene! I live in Brooklyn with my husband Tad and twins Walker and Addison.
